Green Hell has the bones to be a potentially enjoyable experience, but there are several baked in mechanics that really frustrate me as a player.

1. The food and water mechanic, even on the lowest setting, is PUNISHING. In a 5 hour span of the game you will spend the vast majority of your time making food, collecting water, or searching for endless materials to fend off your characters constant hunger and thirst. Short sprints, the swinging of your weapons, jumping, etc will endlessly drain your food and water reserves. If you were to compare the nutrient requirements of your character to an actual 24 hour day in the real world, he would be eating thousands upon thousands of calories. As a player, I could not enjoy what the game had to offer, because I became increasingly annoyed with the time I had to devote to eating, and drinking.

2. The crafting mechanic is not terrible, but it is cumbersome. Building structures, shelves, items, etc takes more materials than you'd expect, and they must be placed in very specific order. EX: You can not place small sticks into a structure until all the long sticks are placed, but seeing as the structure appears as a ghostly frame (as it does in the forest) there is no reason to require this, as it doesn't exist until the entire thing is completed.

3. Don't die. Seriously. All of your items are INSIDE your backpack, zipped up, but the moment you die the backpack springs to life and vomits every single one of your belongings in all directions. There is no rhyme or reason as to where they end up, as some may land at the precise place you died, and others will be 20 feet away in a bush. And, the weapons and tools you crafted? They despawn immediately. When you die, all those items vanish instantly. I can not fathom why this was a choice that was made, but it can set you back enough to be incredibly frustrating, especially considering the effort and time it takes to create these tools. If your rotting meat can be picked up after death, so should an iron spear be.

4. You can stab the jaguar mob 10+ times with a spear and watch blood spray out, but it never dies and simply runs away to come back later, fully healed. Magic jungle cat? It's more likely than you think.

5. Finally, the wound mechanic and subsequent system you use to heal or tend to your body is unnecessary. Your body is separated into 4 quadrants - Upper left arms, upper right arms, lower left legs, lower right legs. You must select each quadrant separately, and manually rotate your appendage in both directions to check for various wounds, bites, infections. This was probably done to make the game more immersive, but it becomes very cumbersome very quickly. When you add the constant hunger and thirst drain, it becomes a chore to even tend to yourself in any meaningful way.

I wanted to like this game, but for my particular brain, it creates far more frustration than it offers in enjoyment. I hope you enjoy it, however.
