I was instantly catched by the fact that you can take on the role of a crow – more specifically, a hooded crow, how cool is that? In addition, the game design was very attractive at first glance, so I didn't hesitate to buy the game and dived into this cute, dark world with anticipation.

I fell in love immediately. The atmosphere is magnificent and extends in its depth through every single door you enter. In each section the ambience is accompanied by additional feelings that dig deep under the skin. This actually gives the story something noticeably sad, and if you get involved with what is being told, it is much more than a “hack & slash“ game and contains a story that touches you. Souls are precious, and that is conveyed beautifully here.

For this rather small format, there are still a surprising number of ways to fight. There are various weapons and also the option to specialize in magic. I played the game a second time because of an achievement. While I specialized in melee and weapon damage the first time through, my focus on the second playthrough was on magic, and that made for a completely different and very exciting gaming experience. In any case, it is recommended to complete the game 100%, as you will come across many worthwhile secrets along the way.

The fights can be challenging, but are always fair and transparent. The later puzzles aren't always easy and they're fun to deal with.
What I personally missed a lot and often frustrated me at the beginning: the lack of a map. I love this game, but I would have enjoyed it even more if I had access to a map. Some people will argue that this is an essential part of the magic of the game ... remembering things, remembering paths, etc., and no doubt that had its charm, but ... I'm a fan of maps, haha! Especially when there is so much to collect and explore. Nevertheless: The game is absolutely recommended if you like this genre.

Death's door is an cartoony, souls-like, indie game.
This game was an absolute joy to play through and 100% story wise.
The sound track for this game is great and could listen to it on loop honestly.
It's characters and dialogue are unique and lively to interact with, and although it has serious moments of life and death, the game still has its moments of being really funny at times with the interactions of certain characters.
The areas you traverse through are separated into 3 areas. Each place is large and can be a little tricky to navigate at first, but isn't terrible once you get the hang of it. The downside is their is no map, so you will need to really rely on memory if you miss something that you wanted to come back for later. Granted there are helpful tools that can help you out with that, however they aren't available until after you beat the game and begin your journey towards 100% completion.
Combat in this game is pretty straightforward, granted some enemies in this game will give you some trouble since their attacks aren't telegraphed too well, but its not a whole lot to ruin the game experience.
Dying in the game is very forgiving, not having you run back to your death spot to retrieve anything lost, but simply pushing you to farm souls and come back later when your just a little stronger.
A final thing is 100% completion, it was mentioned a few times and i'll try to explain it a little with no spoilers, but as it goes to get the "True" ending for this game, you will have to find everything this game has to offer. It may sound like a lot, but it's not that bad, playing the game normally and collecting as you go does help, however it can be a bit of a slog to do everything and sure the game does have tools to help you find the stuff your missing, but you will walk around aimlessly a couple times trying to find that one item you missed. So this might no be for everyone sure, I finished it and I really did like the ending for it, but as a grain of salt be ready for an adventure.

Death's door is a great game with a really good story, would i recommend it; absolutely! However, to some this game might be a bit slow paced, so it might not be everyone's cup of tea and that's totally fine. But if you want to give this game a try, go for it. If you can and wanna give a few more hours into this game aim for that 100% as well, the ending is still pretty good.

Having seen too many graphically beautiful but boring games, I would say this is the game we need. Combat system is simple, challenging and fun, a little puzzle solving but not too much, and small surprises that worthy exploring.
