Project Wingman is a solid 8/10. On the most part it's as good as any Ace Combat game. If they had added check-pointing, then it would have been a 9/10 for me.

Sometimes a mission would be 10 minutes of fairly easy enemies, and then elites would show up and the mission would get harder. If you die to the elites, then you have to replay the same easy 10 minutes again - which got annoying the few times I got stuck on a mission. It probably wouldn't have been such of an issue if I didn't play the game on 'hard' on my first play-through. At least the missions were quite varied, and 2 missions in a row were almost never the same sort of map/objective.

The story was OK. You are a part of a mercenary team, contracted to a smaller country against a bigger, aggressive one. I wish they made you feel more connected to your merc team. I think a few of my named comrades officially died in some missions, but I didn't really notice because the game didn't really make a big deal out of it? Their deaths? could have had more weight to it.

You do feel connected to the world, and that your actions are making a difference. It does a similar thing to Ace Combat where over the course of the game your hear on enemy comms that they start to know who you are by your reputation, and they get scared when they see you're in the fight.

On the whole I had fun with Project Wingman, and it's a good way to pass the time during the long wait for the next Ace Combat game.
