Some people only play the campaigns too, so whenever you see someone say "more people play Halo MCC than Halo Infinite", it doesn't really mean that everyone is playing multiplayer vs Halo Infinite where most people are definitely on the multiplayer. Even besides that, you got 6 different multiplayers to choose from so not everyone is playing every Halo game at the same time.
So yeah, with only a dedicated hardcore fanbase left (mainly in the USA), not so many casual players are staying with Halo. Maybe if Halo came back to PC sooner like around 2016 with full complete releases of Halo 5 and a not broken Halo MCC, more people would have been staying with Halo. But hard to know if things would have been different really.
-There is a more recent instalment of the franchise that is also available on Steam. (Halo Infinite)
-343i has dropped content support. They might fix bugs and other issues (lol), but don't expect any new maps or cosmetics, since the community rejected their attempt at monetising the MCC playerbase.
-There is A LOT of competition for online multiplayer shooters on this platform.
-Halo no longer has the cultural relevance that it used to have over a decade ago.
It is a problem with old games. The people left playing are experts and is hard for new players or bad players to play online. Not saying I won't play any online but I won't play much. I am not much of a fps player anyways which is why I haven't played the other halo games yet. But I am a good value seeker and this is insanely good value on this sale.
For 1 month I did have access to this game in 2020 but at the time it just had reach and halo 1, I did play a few games of halo 1 online and was surprised how bad I was. I did also beat reach with no problem on normal but that game wasn't hard at all.
the tiktok era probably isnt even aware it exists.
still one of the greatest/influential series in history imo (Combat Evolved thru Reach). i personally love it, though time is a premium nowadays.
A 2019 port of a 2014 collection of games ranging from 2001 to 2012.
The audience that plays it is there but its really just the same factor that all games must face, time itself.
Theres nothing wrong with the games even some updates like being able to use ODST weapons in Halo 3 or the sabre in forge for reach were great additions.
The aspect is that, its just time has passed. Many of us have played aspects of this game to death, even Spartan Ops too.
Even games with active communities like Team Fortress 2 which hasn't gotten a solid update (non-cosmetic anyways) in 7 years has people slowly leaving. Its a very active game but eventually, people just leave, sometimes they come back but others will leave.
World of Warcraft turns 20 this year, its not exactly the hotspot thing it was 20 years ago when fantasy was all the rage in pop culture when Lord of the Rings helmed that boom and other stuff like DnD 3rd edition was also a hot seller. Its not exactly the thing most kids want to get into like the kids in 2004 did.
We are human, we grow, we age, we die. Time passes. And like many games, even those still online today, eventually time will take its toll. For the MCC, people are still there and theres plenty to play.
