1st Greek Light Infantry Regiment for NW M&B ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Steam Group

The 1st Greek Light Infantry "The Duke of York's" was a light infantry regiment established in British service from 1810-1816 by mostly Greek enlisted men with Greek and British officers and was raised in the then British occupied Ionian islands. It participated in the successful capture of the island of Lefkada from French forces in 1810 suffering heavily in that action. It was also engaged in british expeditions against the Republic of Genoa and La Spezia in 1814. The regiment wore uniforms closely resembling those of the klephts and armatoloi that later fought in the Greek Revolutionary War as many of them served in the ranks of the regiment or those of its sister regiment the 2nd Greek Light Infantry.
