Yesterday, our august King, Friedrich IX, died of a heart attack. He had hitherto had three, the fourth claimed his life. As he muttered his dying breath he nominated I, Eitel I, his Kronprinz, to take on the mantle of leadership that I am sure shall lead Hanover to unprecedented glory. I shall equal my father, I shall outdo my father, and I shall restore honour and pride to Hanover like it has never known before. This is our nation, our beloved Hanover, and no on will take our beloved Vaterland from us. With the songs of our nations greatest composers, and the spirit of our finest warriors, we shall be driven along a path of glory and of conquest. The fruits of our labour shall be through bloodshed, collective contribution and military and diplomatic might. I stand before you today as Eitel I, your new König.

Developments in the German Empire are taking an unprecedented pace and Hannover risks being left behind if the other German states continue to observe such swift progress. We have witnessed an election for the new Kaiser within the empire which has seen the King of Westphalia win. I puzzle over what the future holds for Hannover and if we will fulfil the promise we have made to our people, and that is to, above all things, secure glory and prestige for Hannover within the empire. Our people demand it.

It is time for Hannover to take its rightful place among our fellow German states, and play a greater role in this bond, this Geman brotherhood! Deutscher Brüderlichkeit! Gott has given us the resources, the wealth and the land, and it is time for us to exploit it! Now brave Hannoverians, observe what you have been gifted with, and use it for Hannover's greater good!

Under Gott, our country will prevail!

Hail Hannover! Hail Friedrich!
