Explore different regions of Mars in search for valuable resources, discover mining sites and find the best place to build a city. Remember that you need to find a relatively levelled area with good access to underground water in place where temperatures don’t drop too much during the night.
DAY / NIGHT CYCLE
Experience open world, sandbox game with realistic day / night cycle and overcome real challenges that colonists have to face. Build solar arrays and batteries for energy storage, upgrade them and find the optimal way to power your colony.
SURVIVE
Occupying Mars is not always fun and games. Sometimes things will explode, break or go not exactly as planned. Learn to cope with “Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly”. Sometimes you have to really act quickly before you run out of air, food or energy.

Empyrion - The Space Sandbox Killer:
Empyrion began looking like some barren and unintuitive hybrid of something like No Mans Sky and Space Engineers. But, where those games get things wrong, this game gets it right. Good balance!
It's a hard balance in survival games, a delicate balancing act.
On one scale, you have the grindiness, which sets the pacing for the game and the rate at which the content can be experienced.
On the other, how fun it is to explore and set your own objectives for yourself.
Lean too far grindy, and you get Space Engineers, a game where things start to feel like a chore, and the survival mode is a joke because half your time is spent tediously looking for resources or waiting for things to craft (Albeit, Space Engineers began as a creative game.) Lean too far fun, and you end up with 8 hours of content and everything can be done at the start.
Although Empyrion isn't perfect, it's balance of fun to grindiness one of the better I've seen in a survival game like this. The building isn't very smart, but it works, but that's a minor inconvience when you compare it to the scope of the game, a sort of 3D Starbound, where you can venture to planets and build ships while the game holds your hand and helps make it all less tedious. This might be one of the best Survival Sandbox games I have played in a very long time.
