This week were switching it up, from cards to dice, from new release to an older (elder?) one.

Elder Sign: Omens gives you a single task: seal an ancient evil before it destroys the world. Easy.

It's a digital adaptation of a classic board game and a rather good adaptation - it includes expansions and is cheap to boot.

Gameplay wise, the main mechanism revolves around assigning the correct die faces to tasks in attempt to seal away the eldritch horrors. While there is luck, I found the luck mitigation to be sufficient and while the occasional plan may go awry, it never felt like the player was only there to roll an pray for the best.

The game has good replayability with a few mini campaigns added for extra variety. Recommended.

As promised earlier, the review of Knights in Tight Spaces is up!

I expected much from KITS and it had a big reputation to live up to. Unfortunately, it was a wildly disappointing encounter.

I had hoped for a masterpiece, and while the gameplay is decent, it has far to many issues that produced more frustrations that enjoyment. I was mulling over giving it a Careful recommendation, but whenever I think about the game, all that comes to mind are the negative experiences and weird design decision that plague it.

Unfortunately, KITS is getting a Not recommended from us. Fans of FITS might still find some enjoyment, but I don't recommend KITS as an entry point for new players.

Secondly, we know that Knights in Tight Spaces released and are working on a review for next week! First impressions are overall good, but some parts don't feel as polished as I'd expected them to be. Currently it also barely offers any challenge (on 2nd highest difficulty no less) so hopefully this will be addressed in the meantime.

Finally, we reviewed Hadean Tactics. I hope the intro didn't take away too much attention from the game, because attention it does deserve.

We generally like it when games from an established genre add a card game mechanic to it. The experiment doesn't always end well, but it does usually offer a unique experience even if both genres are familiar.

Hadean Tactic is an example of a successful experiment, blending autobattler and a deckbuilder into a form that plays very natural. The blend, it makes absolute sense - both genres are based on creating synergies and broken combos and Hadean Tactics absolutely has that.

While there were a few things I disliked (like longer run time), overall it's a game worth trying. Recommended.

Occasionally we like to dig deep and search for hidden gems that just lack the love and visibility. Sometimes those efforts are rewarded (check out our Hidden Gems list)

Not this time. While One Last Dungeon looked promising once we got to play it, it turned out to be a balance mess with a dire amount of pure, unadulterated jank. Unfortunately, it will never get the love it deserves as the game seems abandoned and thus, we can't recommend it.

This week we engaged in some Cat Combat in Necrocat, a fairly straightforward card crawl (or move around a tiled board collecting weapons and managing health and damage) type of game.

Unfortunately a bit too straightforward as Necrocat provide any fun twist or depth to the established formula. With great games out there, like Meteorfall: Krumit's Tale, it's difficult to be satisfied with just the basics.

In the end the game is 'Ok' but too simplistic for our taste, but could appeal to more casual players.

Careful recommendation.
