A bit wooden, but once you get the gist of it, it's great fun. A grittier (at least in-game, the cutscenes are much less edgy) and poorer (but you won't mind it) Streets of Rage 4 from an alternate universe.

Mother Russia Bleeds may not have the most refined gameplay mechanics in the genre, but it does one thing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ right and it's atmosphere. It's bloody and gritty and packs a punch like nothing else, if you miss the heyday of the genre you'll surely find yourself more at home with MLB than with any of the other most recent scrolling beat'em ups (indie or not) that choose either to follow the stylish route or the hipster/ironic route for their aesthetics (which kinda spoils them for me, even when they have very nice and deep combat systems).

If you already played Actual Sunlight, you already know what to expect here. This time though it's not a personal story about depression, but a more broad view on society and wealth inequalities.

The premise - that today's 30 somethings have no future and no economic prospects and no economic value except what their parents accumulated earlier in their lives - is quite intriguing and should feel very close to home to many people. To me it surely did!

Writing is excellent, dry and cynical, especially with the male protagonist, his monologues are always witty and to the point. Though the female protagonist will be the relatable one for most players.

Worth experiencing!

As much as I hated spending 15/20 minutes every time on the runes puzzles, and as simple as the combat system is, and as broken as the pacing of this game can be sometimes, I still loved the ride: beautiful aesthethics, an oscar-worthy performance from the protagonist, incredible atmosphere, and most of all true rawness, as in "look the model for the protagonist is very beautiful but they made her move and look and have that empty stare and scream her guts out in rage and bare her teeth out in pain so that she really looks like a suffering, desperate person, and not a bimbo (or a brooding space marine) with some grease smeared on her face to look edgy".

And that rawness also makes the combat a very enjoyable ride, as it's simple mechanically all right, but it's choreographed beautifully, with Senua always on the brink of losing, always in a last stand attitude, truly truly gripping, so much so that Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice has the best videogame rendition of Berserk's eclipse (you'll see when you'll arrive at that point).

Glad that we could have such a "difficult" game released, and kudos to Ninja Theory for having had the guts to get it out. Loved it!
