This game delivers an authentic Aliens experience with a few rough edges that, fortunately, seem to have been smoothed out over time.

The Good:
Exploring the beautifully detailed environments while wielding a pulse rifle is pure joy. The attention to detail in the world-building is fantastic, especially learning about the installation on Purdan. The sound effects, voice acting, and graphics are stellar, making the game highly immersive. Few games capture the atmosphere of Aliens as effectively as this one.

The Bad:
The game initially suffered from significant performance issues, not due to its graphical demands per se (though systems with less than a 2080 might struggle), but due to my use of Virtual Desktop on a Quest 3. Performance would degrade after extended sessions, forcing frequent restarts. Switching to Air Link mitigated these issues temporarily, but they persisted until the most recent patch, which thankfully resolved most of the stuttering and frame drops.

Some "jank" remains, though. For example, unused ammo disappears in certain areas later in the game, discouraging exploration. Additionally, the combat encounters feel limited. Aliens typically attack in groups of two, occasionally escalating to groups of three near the end. While the basic warrior aliens and a few facehuggers are included, there’s a noticeable lack of variety in enemy types. Adding runners, worker drones, or crushers in a sequel would be a welcome improvement.

Combat mechanics could also use refinement. When aliens die, they simply ragdoll and melt away. More dramatic dismemberment, impactful acid spray effects, and the ability to take down larger groups of aliens would enhance the experience. Currently, it takes about 20 pulse rifle rounds, two full-blast shotgun shots, or three pistol rounds to the head to kill an alien. While their durability feels appropriate, more frequent encounters with larger groups could add excitement.

Gameplay and Structure:
The game has a Metroidvania-style structure, with plenty of backtracking to explore previously inaccessible areas once you’ve upgraded your keycard or acquired new tools—all while being hunted by xenomorphs. The pacing picks up towards the end, requiring you to navigate the entire facility to complete objectives. However, the scarcity of ammunition in later sections can feel unnecessarily punishing.

The weapon selection is quite limited, with only three guns available. A flamethrower feels like a glaring omission, and more scripted encounters—like opening a door to find a group of xenomorphs patrolling or stalking you through vents—would add to the tension. The puzzles, while serviceable, mostly involve connecting electrical components to open doors. It would have been great to see more variety, such as using the welding torch in creative ways or encountering more scripted, wave-based combat moments.

Overall:
This game leaves me wanting more—but in a good way. The bones are here, and I could see a number of Aliens games using this as a template for future entries. Despite its flaws, this is one of the most authentic Aliens games I’ve ever played. It feels like a AAA title but could benefit from more polish, variety in combat, and better balance in resource distribution.

Final Score: 8/10
A must-play for Aliens fans, with plenty of room to grow in its next installment.

First and foremost, the game has some or that good ol euro-jank to and production. Voice acting, while not awful, is also certainly nothing special, and cutscenes are for the most part fairly stiff.

However, the game absolutely slaps. Never thought a Robocop action/rpg would be as good as it is, but this hits pretty good. Between shooting missions, there are hub-world detective missions where you solve crimes through usually non-violent means, but in doing so you learn more about Robocops psyche as well as some of the cities inhabitants. Fun stories, neat payoffs, leveling up in an easy-to-use point system as well as upgrading Robocops auto-9, I'm so happy to say that Murphy gets the gaming treatment he deserves.

Hopefully we can get a VR version soon!

The game is exactly what it says it is. Simple, straight forward xeno-blasting action, with a deeper than expected customization system. It isn't meant to be a horror title, nor did it ever promise to be - it's a team oriented action shooter in the spirit of Left 4 Dead but with xenomorphs. It's halfway to being an Aliens looter-shooter!

I'm genuinely excited for the DLC, for the first time in forever.

I've only just got into the game, I've been playing for about a weeks worth now. To me, survival games were nothing but time filles, pointless games with no real sense of scale - just grinding. However, the method in which Exiles does so makes everything an absolute joy to play. Making a survival game based on Hyborea without any of the frills of black powder technology, dinosaurs, lazers, electricity etc was genius. I heard the early access and alpha builds for the game weren't the most fun to play, however any qualms that were in those games don't seem to have carried over to this product.

Exiles is an amazing game

Early Access Review
Although Pavlov has the player base, the gameplay and customization here completely blows Pavlov out of the water. Contractors deserves a special place in VR.
