Can't believe I forgot to throw a review here, solid game, decent memories of when I played it, it's a classic or rather it is a representation of the genre we can now call classic. If you were even interested in finding the charm of what games were many moons ago but in a more current day wrapper then this is it.

I am nine months into the development of my latest project and am on the verge of reaching the alpha stage. Recently, a friend sent me a link to a video, which I watched and then verified on Twitter.

I went to the discussions to express my concerns about my project. My project is not political; its goal is to be accessible to everyone, not just a specific group. However, it now seems tainted by politics, and I feel that my ability to remain apolitical has been compromised.

Even if this isn’t the direction of Godot, I’ve observed this behavior since March 2024 on the Discord. Back then, I noticed moderators engaging in what seemed like a race to be offended. Casual conversations that would normally be innocuous were now filled with unmentionable words. The options were to apologize, censor yourself, or be banned. This nonsense left a bad taste in my mouth, and I decided to leave.

In short, I felt alienated by Godot. Fortunately, I have game development experience and am a good problem solver, so I can continue my project without that resource. However, what happened recently was a bridge too far. Telling people to “f out of your universe” indicates that this wasn’t an isolated incident but an intentional effort to alienate developers from the Discord and the engine if they don’t care about or agree with a particular ideology.

I don’t want to alienate my customers, and using Godot as my engine of choice has now become a political question with objectively negative implications from a utilitarian perspective. Even if Godot’s ideology is the right one, I refuse to alienate people who will play my game, I do not care about their politics and I am not so insecure that I must force them to care about mine.

I conducted a quick poll and found that, on average, 1 in 9 people have pronouns like he/she/they/them in their profiles on GODOT tangential Discords. While I didn’t ask any questions, I concluded that most people don’t have the energy to care about learning or applying pronouns to their profiles. Some of the 1 out of 9 might be doing it for work.

I’ve come so far in my project, but this is Godot. Life is about mistakes, and mine might have been not paying attention to the culture of Godot’s community back in February and March, even if they are a minority. The thing with politics in business is that it can be like a rotten apple in a barrel of apples.

Okay, I met the developer over discord and I am a developer myself.

With that out there, I am not extremely familiar with this project, I did get a chance to play the demo and later purchased this to see what was up. It is my understanding that this is the developers first complete project and that this was created using Game Maker. My experience is in Unity and GODOT so in this critique I cannot speak to GameMaker but I will speak on fundamental design.

1. State Machine in specific a Finite one would have made much of the controls better, controls are the first impression and it was a bad one, you had various controls that are active at the same time. Generally I make a habit of locking controls within a FSM to ensure I keep the growing number of them under well... control no pun intended.

1a. Forced options, when the game starts it detects my controller, this would be fine if it could detect which input I was actually using later or if it didn't actively use the controller and gave me the option to upon detection.

2. Music, a completed project in my humble opinion needs to have a ST or OST you really shouldn't have pushed this out without one. I fiddled with settings a bit and found sound by default is off but that's just the SFX not any music. Without that you've given yourself a higher hurdle in pulling your player into the mood you are setting.

3. A game like this is impressive to me, in that you attempted to give everything functionality and to the point where you have evolving logic from sequences of interactions. That tells me there was a strong vision for the game before design which is great.

4. UI is very smooth, while the visuals are very likely engine default that's just a rub, you can easily replace those place holders, however it probably should have been done in Early Access not on full release.

Conclusion. Okay this game has some very Nintendo-isc vibes but in what it is going for. It however can't get out of its own way in getting there.

This could be largely fixed with the implementation of a proper state-machine and some music. You've got the idea though with your tutorial, and to be honest tutorials are by far the most difficult thing to design, you go too far people hate it you go too light people hate it but what exactly is too far or too light? The reality is there isn't one, you just need to make the first thing you teach be the skip button.

Yeah, no bueno changing a game I already bought.

I never even bought it for the art style, I bought it because my friends played it. But I understand that if I give the mind cancer behind this move any daylight it will only encourage you guys so here's my down vote.

Also here is hoping steam allows refunds since a selling point of the game is the art direction, changing that after purchase amounts to false false advertising and theft.

It isn't a bad game but my main gripe about the game from day 1 has slightly been addressed. The texture of the planets. However working game design and programming I'm aware of the difficulty that comes with procedural generation.

Regardless it's a fantastic game to me, I like the whole expedition system and quick silver.

GTA5 is the Goat of Urban crime gaming in a simulated environment.

The level of detail to the level design, and where the game is at as of writing this... if this was released today it would be an AAA game for just GTA Online.

I don't think much more needs to be said about the game itself. So let's move on to the players and the business model.

First off the Shark Cards by themselves is the industry normal. In my honest opinion, unless you are making about $100+ an hour at your job, Shark Cards are NOT worth it. So if you are single, living with your parents and pulling in close to 70-90k a year go ahead. Otherwise you are an addict and need help if you find yourself in defense of purchasing these - and I am not being offensive here:

Rockstar's business model uses the adversarial nature of the game to increase the difficulty of avoiding the use of Shark Cards. Pack that with their new content all being behind pay walls further all but coerces you to consider Shark Cards.

But the real issue isn't just the subversive tactic here, it's also that there is no stability to the game to justify considering Shark Cards as paying for a service. (Which would give them more value in my book). Imagine trying to form a group, you guys are doing a CEO mission and suddenly your game crashes, okay you dust yourself off relog in and spend the time to form up a group again, a few minutes later it freezes and you crash, or you end up in a cage, or you get booted to story mode. This is the poison diminishes the value of GTA Online, the game is unplayable online and so I will not recommend this game.

For me it became unplayable.

This game is now unplayable for me, I've tried for the last 3 days to get it to work after re-downloading it to scratch my dbz itch.

I get about 10 minutes of play and then a random game freeze, if I don't press any buttons maybe it will pass and the game plays again. Otherwise I'll get a black screen and then CTD.

This game is interesting... if you've played others like it then... you kind of know what it's on about. The difference is that this game deals more with Murim than Xianxia. So you aren't here to see people flying around on swords, they are more like Gotham heroes/villains.

First of this is a solid game, as in it is very stable and runs well, second the art and music are good stuff, there is nothing wrong in that department.

I'd say that this game suffers from simply not having anything that really makes it stand out. Nothing pops about it, it may be because I am an English speaker so some things are lost on me... I am still very satisfied with my purchase and I can recommend this to others.

If this is your first go into this kind of game, then again this is a stable game, very well designed. Give it a shot, it's a bit more management than martial arts than I liked but it's still pretty good.

This is borderline a visual novel. The combat is kind of rough and really that is the only game play there is. Don't get me wrong I enjoy how it transitions, the way of telling the story is Really good, the story is top notch but in my view it balanced away from being a game and being more like a novel.

Graphics - Pretty good, nothing crazy here but it isn't bad by any means.

Art - Top notch, you are getting some really high quality art here, and consistently so.

Design - The games formula again comes off more like a visual novel but it does that very well.

Gameplay - This is well done albeit not this products strength at all. It is by far more of a story telling experience. The combat is clever and transitions well.

Sound - Respectable music and the Voice Acting is on point if a bit much at some points.

Conclusion - I didn't really want this kind of game when I was looking for wuxia style games, I am happy I found it though. But I don't see myself finishing it, it kind of reminds me of Jade Empire so if you are looking for that then this goes in that direction.
