Very solid game.

Way more polish, and optimisation than Vampire Survivors. I enjoy the way the cards interact with the weapons to create a large variety of builds. In Vampire Survivors you pretty much had the same 2-3 builds every run, because certain combos just overshadowed everything else.

I see a lot of people saying how Vampire Survivors has so much more content, but all the content felt the exact same to me. I enjoyed it, but I enjoy this game a lot more. I find there's way more viable builds, and ways to build in this game because the balance is just better. I do wish there were a few more weapon types to dilute the pool a bit more, and give even more depth to the game. However, for a $5 game this is a steal. If you get a couple hours of enjoyment out of it, you've got your money's worth already.

My biggest complaints are probably the lack of colours in the palette. I dunno if that's an artistic , or optimisation choice, but it does make the game feel a little bland. Much like in 20 Minutes Till Dawn. It also has the same issues where certain things make enemy projectiles near impossible to see. Explosions, for example have the same colours as the enemy projectiles.

The other issue I have is in the progression system. Currently, when you first start out, it's painful to unlock the first tier of cards and weapons. You basically end up doing runs to specifically unlock stuff, and just dying on purpose to get the unlock and then do a proper run. If the unlocks happened in real-time, where they unlock mid run rather than after the run ends, it would probably feel much smoother.

So years later, I still think this game has issues. ArchNem is "mostly gone" now, and the game is sorta playable. I feel like there's a wall in this game, where you have to seriously grind for the tiniest bits of progression. I understand, that's fundamental in ARPGs, but in PoE getting upgrades past a certain point is a huge slog. It always has been, but now the bar keeps getting higher to enter most of the end-game content.

Now if you trade for all your items, no problem. I play trade once in a while, but I don't really enjoy it. And playing self-found feels overly punishing.

I can write many pages about this game, having put a ton of time into it. I think the game is in a much better place right now, but every once in a while you run into a left-over from ArchNem and you know it right away. Some random rare mob just won't die, and when you finally down them it drops nothing. That stuff feels bad.

Now my biggest problem in PoE is knowledge. Even after so many hours, and watching content, and learning. I still don't know enough of the items in PoE to make a good end-game build on my own. Second biggest issue is crafting. Not so much knowing how, but just straight up not having enough resources to even attempt it.

I've also started to notice that a lot of mechanics that have stuck around, I'm not a fan of. Things like Heist.... ugh. So terrible. I don't care what rewards you gatekeep there, I will never play that garbage again unless it gets a major overhaul. No one wants to wait for doors to open. NO ONE. I feel very similar with crap like Delve, Incursion, and Sanctum.

Overall the game is good. There's a TON of content, and most of it is optional. You can choose to do as much, or as little of it as you want. I just feel like there's an extreme gear check curve in this game. You'll really feel it going from Yellow tier to Red tier maps. Any progression beyond that is really where the slog comes in.

Lastly, I just want to briefly touch on the cash shop. Yes the game is free to play (f2p), but you will have to eventually buy stash space, and maybe special stash tabs. So it'll cost you probably like $30-40 to get the ones you need, plus maybe a quad tab. For a game with this much content, that's pretty cheap. The cosmetics, are a little over-priced. But they're not pay to win.... well mostly anyways. Things like visual flask effects, so you can easily see when your flask drops off, that's kinda pay2win. Flasks typically have an effect already, it's just harder to see during combat.

I wish there was a way to revert this game back to 1.0, back when it was still fun...

RIP nomadic exploration sim. Now it's some god awful base builder in space, with almost a rip off of Trade Wars shoehorned in.

Honestly one of the best Roguelites I've played. Fast-paced action, lots of RNG, and fun builds to explore. Like any game there's a learning curve, and you slowly unlock everything. The story is of course great, given the team it's from.

One thing to note is that the game is designed for controllers. You can play mouse + kb, but for me it didn't feel nearly as good. Nothing really wrong with it, just my preference.

This was definitely my game of the year, and I'm sad it didn't get there. Worth buying imo.

At the time of posting, I've unlocked everything, and I'm just finishing up the last few achievements. The game is still a ton of fun, and there's more challenge to keep me going as long as I want to increase the difficulty. There's a wide variety of difficulty settings, not just damage sponge mode. Such a smart system.

Early Access Review
This game is completely unplayable in its current state. Until the programmer finally does something with it, just avoid this game all together.

I really wanted to give this a good review, because it looked so promising, but I tried about 20 times to get any kind of testing done, and it either crashed, or the UI bugged out.

There's not a lot to do in this alpha so far (I assume it's not even in beta yet lol). There's no survival elements yet, but they have put the foundation in for it. I can't really comment much on anything else since it was so unplayable I couldn't experience them.

With how slowly this game gets updated, and the fact the programmer is still in school from what I gather, I don't expect this game to go anywhere, anytime soon. I hope that I can change this review at a later date with something more positive, but as of right now I have to say DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

This game is a terrible piece of trash. Don't wasate your time on it.

If your sole purpose for playing a game is to speedrun something challenging, try doing Boshy instead. The only thing this game is good for is speedruns, but it's not even fun for that. Almost every mechanic in the game is obviously designed with speedruns in mind. The gameplay and story was clearly an after-thought.

Putting aside all the lies from Comcept, this game was not worth $4mil in development. I hope Comcept goes belly up for this utter disgrace of a game. Inafune, you should be embarrassed for putting out something this bad. With a development team of that much experience, there was no excuse for what you produced.

If you buy this game you can expect graphics that may as well be retro in a 3D environment made to run in 2D. It's awkward, and the controls are clunky. You have to run into everything to kill it, and pray you don't die if your timing is off, and that's after fighting it down. If you mess up, fight it again and dash at it... so boring, and pointless. An added mechanic that didn't provide any value to the game.

Swapping skills is not intuitive, and I don't think they even explain how to do it. Such a huge let down. Don't get sucked into buying this.

I feel like I should give a review of this game, having put in as much time as I have. I look at the reviews, and despite having an excellent rating, both overall and recent, I see tons of negative ones being featured. So here's an honest review, and how I think people get the wrong impression of this game.

First off, I want to say that visual, and audio components of this game are fantastic. Artistic style is beautiful, and the narration is perfect. Just to hear the way Wayne June talks to you is worth the price tag. The controls have improved since the betas, not that they were bad, but just more quality of life changes have taken place to make it easier on the player.

The game starts out with a good bit of difficulty, you can even die in the tutorial stages. That should tell you everything about what you can expect from this game. People tend to pick this game up, thinking that they're going to outsmart the AI with their logical builds of skills and party compositions. That is a BIG mistake. Wayne June will tell you, "Overconfidence is a slow, and insidious killer." You can have the best items, and a great party, and still get run over by RNG.

Now people think that's a bad thing. The only bad thing here, is the player. When RNG is making your run through the dungeon take a turn for the worse, you are expected to pull the run. Even in the final missions where there are penalties for doing so. It is up to you, the player, to know when to pack it in, and let your party recover. If you try to plough on through, arrogantly thinking that you should win regardless, that is your downfall.

I can tell you from experience, I've been there. I've lost entire parties with end game trinkets, and that's my fault for not pulling them out sooner. If you can't handle that kind of loss, you should play something else. Maybe Hello Kitty Island is more your kind of game.

If you want to feel that gut wrenching terror of not knowing whether your party is going to make it, this is for you. I can't tell you how many times I've had my finger on the white flag, debating if I should run away. Then pressing on only to have my party die from chained heart attacks. I don't blame the game for my poor decisions, perhaps I blame RNG, and curse up a storm. But I knew the risks, and that blame ultimately falls square on my own shoulders.

So, no big loss. You get a new party together, and grind them up. Watch as they all go insane, and half of them die off before they're ready for the final dungeons...

Welcome to Darkest Dungeon my friends. You will scream. You will probably cry. You may even smash your keyboard (*cough*Zeke*cough*). But there's a satisfying feeling when you finally take on a level 5 boss, and crush them under your blade. So take your torches, and keep the lights burning. For you will find no mercy waiting for you beneath the ruins of your estate, and only your madness to keep you company in the dark.

This game probably doesn't even need a review. You've probably already heard about how amazing this game is, so let me just reassure you... This game is awesome.

If you enjoyed games like Amnesia: Dark Descent, you are going to love this game as well. This has all the same mechanics: Run or die, Grab and pull, Explore and learn.

I would love to talk about the masterpiece of a story they've written here, but I don't want ruin anything for you. What I will say, is this game touches on a lot of tough subjects, and forces you into those situations. You both love, and hate being thrust into these decisions.

By the end of this game, I was both happy and sad that it was over. I can't usually play these horrors games, but this game is totally worth playing. My first playthrough took just over 13.5hrs. $30 is a steal for a AAA game like this. I look forward to doing another play through.... in a few months after I recover from the first time 'round.

There are quirks to this game where it's both good and bad. There's very little game music, which makes the atmosphere very ominous, but can also get pretty boring. When the music does come in, it scares the crap out of you.

Visually, this game is very well done. The graphics aren't super realistic, but real enough for you to be able to experience the immersion. The effects, and lighting are done just right. You can almost always see what you're doing, but it's dark enough to keep you nervous and jumpy. The creatures in this game are creepy, and definitely have you running away in fear.

Controls... This is a touchy topic for me. I play with mouse and keyboard. This game handles very well, although it did feel like the mouse sensitivity could have been better. Other than that, there's no real inventory to speak of, which is fine, but the style of inventory they used needs better explanation. I didn't know what it was until almost the very end of the game. Overall, the actual movements, and mechanics were great.

If I were to rate this game, I would give it a 9/10. This game amazing, and I don't hand out scores like that lightly. Everything from the story, right down to small opened tin cans with bits of food still in the bottom. This game is lovingly crafted, and it shows. Buy this game.

After having completed a play through of this game, I would like to commend the creators on a job well done.

This game is entertaining, and the story is fun to play through. The play style of the game is fast paced, with a lot of climbing and jumping. The action sequences are interesting, although the combo system is lacking, and leaves much to be desired.

Pros:
Fast paced action
Easy to follow guidance hints with ledges and such
Plenty of tutorials
Entertaining Story
Interesting concepts with the memories

Cons:
The controls are a little clunky (Feels like it was designed for controllers, plays weird on mouse + kb)
Combos are in a preset order
Menus are clearly designed for controllers, and do not translate well for mouse + kb
No proper counters for certain enemies

The graphics in this game are beautiful. A lot of the city backdrops, and surrounding environments are amazing to soak in while you're playing the game. There are parts when the game locks you into a super slow walking pace while you're engaged in a conversation. I have no clue why this was done, but it's incredibly frustrating since you're talking over voice comms, not face to face.

The fighting sequences are both fun, and frustrating at times. This is normally a good thing, because you want some challenge. However some of that challenge just comes about due to the poor targetting system, when it just randomly launches you to hit the wrong mob. There's one particular mob in the game that deals damage to you when you hit it, and the only counter you have to use an ability that lets you kill him instantly. However they toss multiples of these guys at you, and sometimes it's not practical to recharge that ability.

Thankfully, this game isn't super punishing, and when you die you start back with full health again. There's lots of checkpoints where it auto-saves. Almost every major battle, and even between sequences, it auto-saves. So even though there's frustrating parts, the game isn't overly punishing. You can also setup combos to heal you, which can sometimes work to even out the damage you take from them. There's a lot of give and take going on, and overall I found it tolerable.

My biggest complaint is that a bunch of the later boss fights require specfic mechanics, and until they finally decide to throw you a bone, you can end up bashing your head against the wall for a good deal of time. Also, I'm not a big fan of QTE which are littered throughout a lot of boss fights.

On the whole, this game was a lot of fun to play. I would recommend people to give it try, and enjoy the story as it unfolds. Probably best if you play with a joystick, but I used a keyboard and mouse so it's still playable that way.

So my last review of this game was from 2014, shortly after their first big update I think. So now 2 years later, I thought it was time for a new review, that better reflects the current state of the game.

This is a game that shows so much promise, but fails to deliver on every level. Seriously.

The developers have time and again refused to listen to the community, and just pushes out junk that no one wants, instead of fixing the major issues in the game. Bugs are left to fester for months, and in some cases even years.

Some classes are designed with so many skills required to make their builds viable, that the skill bar can't hold them all. The company refuses to increase the visible skill hotbars, which means there's no easy or clean way to use more skills even though there ARE multiple skill hotbars. No changes have been made to those classes to alieviate this problem, and no changes to the hotbars. In fact they have flat out said no changes are ever coming for that, because it would encourage the developers to create classes that use multiple bars... Yeah, I'm sure you already caught the conundrome there.

Because of the initial rushed release of this game, the majority of the models look like crap. Huge hands bigger than their heads, and body proportions that don't match the heroes. Only just now are they starting to update those legacy heroes to look more modern, but this is years later. It's too little, too late, and everyone is bailing out of this game fast.

To top it all off, David Brevik (One of the original D2 devs) has left the company to persue his own interests. Just prior to that, a bunch of their veteran staff was let go, or found other jobs. The staff left behind seems to be proving themselves incompotent. The lastest rebrand went out, and caused tons of people to CTD (crash to desktop), but instead of that being a priority, their main concern was fixing a loot bug.

So here you have a game with a great IP (Marvel), and crappy implementation of an ARPG that has shoe-horned mmo elements into it for no real reason. Raids, epic fail. The raid system has been terrible, with horrible drop rates since they were rushed out initially. The staff refuses to fix the drop rates because their crappy raid system allows you to farm the last boss, without doing all the previous ones. Years later, it's still like that, and rather than fixing anything they actually rushed out a second raid.

This is a game that is going straight downhill, fast. The majority of the vocal players in the community no longer even post on the forums, because when you say anything about Gazillion on the forums that proves they're a shady company, you have your post removed. So there's no way to give feedback that goes anywhere, and even if it does the community never knows. There's no transparency as to what the heck they're doing, or what their actual future plans are.

In short, this game is in a terrible place right now, and there's nothing to indicate that it will ever improve at this point. I would advise not putting any money into this game. Play it, and see if you can live with the buggy game, but don't expect it to improve.
