Pros:
Not an expensive game, especially considering I got it on sale to play with friends, it has a nice 80s Sweden atmospheric foggy thing going on, and I really like that the enemy mobs are machines instead of Yet More Rotten Corpse Simulators, I've been wanting more games like this, happy to see this and Arma 3:Contact.

Cons:
As you'd expect, it's a big endeavor for an indie team, and as with survival games in general, there can be some funny glitches like one point in a map we were running into invisible objects with our bikes where we were being thrown high into the air, made for a lot of amusement on voice chat, but if you're an enthusiast of survival games at all I imagine you're very forgiving as such things come with the territory.

--
Overall I say the game has a lot of polish for what it is and a fun atmosphere, fun co-op: Be aware everyone gets their own loot crates, so everyone can get that 8 rounds of ammo, but this is not the case for the weapons, the starting house for example that you spawn at has one pistol and one baseball bat, if you spawn in with a friend, only one person is getting the pistol, though everyone can loot the same ammo for themselves one time per player.. On the whole this can help make it a tight-knit immersive survival experience if you go into the game playing it with the same person, delegating limited weapons etc, but on the other hand you can go into your own game and loot some weapons and then when you join a player's game your character will have all that looted equipment.

Customer Service for this game is apparently unable to provide customer service for their longtime paying customers, I asked for my problem to be elevated and then the "Leading Specialist" also came back to say that, no, they could not throw me a pittance. Long story short I wanted a very small amount of GE credited to me, again, a pittance, and they apparently do not even have the power to do it if they wanted to. It doesn't matter how loyal you are, or how many people you've brought into the game, or how many beginners packs you've purchased etc, their core doctrine appears to be being needlessly stingy thus sacrificing established amicable business relationships instead of "more flies with honey" or "the customer is always right" (id #860200)

The game itself is very fun, though it can suffer from some serious matchmaking/balancing issues, when it does all work properly, the game is fun, I would recommend that no matter how loyal of a person you are to the games you support, never giving them a penny because they are unable to make good on their end and maintain a healthy business relationship with you should the need arise. Now I have a gun to my head completely unable to ever support this game monetarily, probably for the best. I will continue to play their game, but cannot spend another penny on it since my business relationship with them is absolutely meaningless, thanks to them not empowering their customer service representatives to fix small problems.

UPDATE/RESPONSE:

Premium ammo = It's early, lol :D

I accidentally purchased the premium cromwell with ge just because I was used to it saying "Pack" there if the vehicle was in a pack, it was my own stupid mistake and I freely admitted that to them, I asked if they could refund it so I could buy it in the starter pack instead as I had intended, so a rep replied that they see that I used it in a few battles so were sadly *UNABLE* to refund it, so I replied, well obviously I used it because I wanted it just in the British starter pack, and did immediately make a support ticket about it, and that I have now purchased the starter pack so they can see I was serious about getting the starter pack. To which they replied that they unfortunately were unable to reverse this charge regardless The corporation clearly did not enable them to make the call that it was well and good and good for business for them to maintain a healthy business relationship with a paying customer, I have no doubt that they were literally unable to make that call e.g. their tools did not even allow them to reverse the charge since the tank had been used. so Got that $40 Cromwell 3.3 BR lol :)

Hey lesson learned, their customer service specialists (even the leads) are not empowered to make snap judgment calls when things fall outside of the normal script, probably because corporate doesn't trust their own customer service team(this is a guess, but I have worked tech support myself and I really think their hands were completely tied on the matter...)

I'm an old guy, it's ultimately not about the money, the money was worth the lesson for me and will end up paying for itself over and over again in the years to come, every time I think back about this occurrence, it's about the lack of customer care. Too bad it will not be a lesson for them, a quick and simple decision could've potentially made them a a lot more money in the future.

Early Access Review
Be aware that my friend, who had similar framerate/memleak issues as me and is refunding, hosted the game we tried... when he left, I was put out to the main menu of the game and plain as day the server "Continue" it said I had been playing on was named his Window's PC name, which is unnecessary leakage of personal data, some people name their windows after their RL names, this information can also be used in Windows Networking etc... so that is also a concern they should fix.

The complaints about low framerate and memory leaks seem to well apply to me. The sysreqs say minimum ram: 2GB, recommended 4GB... within a few minutes of playing the executable ballooned up to over 7GB and climbing, my framerate on a GTX 960 (far above the min/recommended GPUs) was 15fps, turning shadows down increased it a little, but it is still very clear this engine is not performing as intended.

The idea for the game is nice, I hope they get it together and fix whatever they broke and at that point I may rebuy the game and change my review accordingly.

Early Access Review
Friend got me to play it, it seems like a fun co-op game so far, but I just learned that bundle keys that I purchased for this were invalidated by the developer/publisher when it went free to play, that was a disappointing move that will anger the purchaser every time, I buy extra copies of bundles when I can afford it to give to friends and do key drops... They could've easily turned these keys into some token package they gave you some chests or _SOMETHING_ instead it seems like they ripped everyone off who paid for this game in any way before it went f2p? Again, very disappointing, no token reward, no early supporter thank you, just a whole bunch of keys I paid for invalidated.

Invalidating the keys people paid for is a very bad business practice and makes you seem like a very untrustworthy company.

I nominated this as aging really well, "Test of Time" Award for the Steam 2016 Autumn Sale achievement. It remains one of the best large scale RTS games on the market despite its age, and the graphics have aged fairly well also. Vast air land and sea battles, a great game to play some casual co-op compstomp against AI.

I don't understand how this game has the rating it does. It is unfortunately a buggy mess, it is a very infuriating waste of time. I loved galciv2 and always thought highly of Stardock because of it. I bought into this game because of the multiplayer, The idea of playing galciv2 multiplayer really appealed to me. Unfortunately they have NOT delivered.

When I host and my friend joins, it immediately crashes on him like clockwork, so to work around it I saved the game and re-invited him to the lobby of the restored session. Now we are experiencing the turn hang bug, where the turns stop progressing and there's nothing you can do. People have found a work around by loading an earlier save and moving differently in order to continue their multiplayer game. If your idea of fun is coming up with crazy work arounds to try to dodge bugs the devs should've tackled long ago, buy away, you will NOT be disappointed.

I on the other hand am very disappointed and want Stardock to fix this mess.

It's like a Bruce Lee kung fu movie married with a Jackie Chan Hong Kong police detective movie, in a GTA-style engine. The only truly open world GTA-like engine i know of where you're not playing a degenerate thug, there's LA Noire but everyone says it is unfortunately very light on the open world aspect, and there's Just Cause where you're a government thug.

This game is not in the least overrated, I'd say it's a little underrated, it has story, it has cinematics, it has a full brawler martial arts combat system. It deserves its M rating however.

I like this a lot more than I thought I would, while I don't consider it a full replacement for either keyboard+mouse or pure console controller like xbox 360, it has many great advantages and depending on the game can perform better than either.

Depending on the game you can get the best of both worlds between kb/m and controller, the right thumbpad allows you to look around much more accurately and quickly in 3D games than a right thumbstick would allow you especially because of their deadzones and analog pressure features(which often has me turning faster and further than I need to) while maintaining the gamepad benefits of buttons, bumpers, triggers and left thumbstick, as well as a left thumbpad that can emulate Dpad.

At this point I've found very advantageous uses for it with certain games, but with some games like pure fighters etc, very console/gamepad focused games, I still prefer an xbox 360 controller. Similarly with very intensive simulation type PC games where a hundred buttons under your face actually contributes to the realism and ease of control, the steam controller is also not a replacement.

I find it an excellent couchmate for traditionally kb/m casual simulation games like city builders and 4x. Anything that's a lot of thinking and taking your time and pointing and clicking? This is a brilliant replacement for the office chair IMHO.

Pros:
  • Very innovative.
  • Fills a lot of niches I didn't even know existed.
  • Incredibly configurable, I'm still figuring out new things to do with it.
  • Makes a lot of traditionally desk/keyboard+mouse games comfortable couch/gamepad games.
Cons:
  • It will never be a full replacement for certain games that excel with kb/m or 360 controller.
  • Price may be off-putting for some, but $50 was the retail price point of 360 controllers for a very long time, well worth it.
  • It uses AA batteries and some people do not seem to like this, I DO like this, I buy alkaline batteries once a year at deep discount. You can use the controller wired or wireless, and you can buy AA rechargeables, but you cannot recharge them inside the controller.

I can confirm all another player said about this game and more, the constant innuendo, the constant and thinly veiled sexual reference, potty humor, and really "jokes" that are just so snarky and poorly written make up the bulk of this game. I mean it, this is probably the filthiest game i've seen on steam, not filthy like buxom zombies of Dead Island, but filthy like dirty old man gives me the creeps everytime he opens his stank hole and sounds come pouring out kind of filthy.

The engine is acceptable, the art is acceptable, the way items are handled, all classic point/click adventure, but it is entirely wasted by this niche marketing. This is the adventure game equivalent of a stupid drunken idiotic "Spring Break" Z rated teen movie.

I wish I could scrub the activity from my profile, but the only reason I ever stuck with this game was for playfire rewards, which works based on obtaining certain achievements.

This game could've been fun for the whole family, were it not for the writing/storyline. Definitely not my cup of tea.

CS:GO Review
This is the watered down TF2oid version of Counter-Strike, it's all about the casino, it always was about the casino. Get dem gamblers up in this game, opening dem crates/cases/boxes, no matter how much you gamble, you will never win real money, and this is why Valve doesn't have to answer to a casino authority. Counter-Strike: Source is far better than this game in every respect, it is a faster more raw reflexive experience, there's a reason CS:GO goes on sale more frequently than CS:S, and there's a reason the base price of CS:GO is lower than the base price of CS:S even though CS:S is older. Just like TF2 and Dota2 before it, expect CS:GO to go F2P at some point in the future, because everyone they can get in on the gambling, the better Valve makes out.

I love Valve games, I hate Valve's Casino.

Peace.
