No good. I always play a Christmas HOG or two during the holidays, and have enjoyed them all.

Until this one. I don't know what happened to the developers, but they really dropped the ball and cheaped out on this one. The rooms were nice, but not nearly as Christmas-ey as they usually are. No super cozy and warm rooms like I always love in this game.

And the ending came up WAY TOO SUDDEN! I was moseying along, and still had about eight rooms left in the strategy guide to find the secret items, and I completed a puzzle and the game showed about 5 seconds of an animation and then the credits rolled! What the heck?!? I don't recall ever playing one of these HOGs where the bonus puzzle pieces were not all found in the main game.

Also - they couldn't even have created a nice graphic for the little Steam store game identifier. Just a plain red box with the title in white font. Lame!

Anyway, I spent way too much time on this review for such a disappointing game. There are MUCH better Christmas HOGs out there. I hope this isn't a trend.

Anyway . . . onwards to better HOGs.

Early Access Review
This is the perfect adaptation of the board game to PC. They added so many digital only features, like daily treks where you play solo against the world, all using the same rules, and compare scores on a leaderboard (which so far has not been hacked which amazed me!). There are also a bunch of challenges and solo scenarios that change up the rules a bit for each, while keeping the heart of the game the same.

It really is a wonderful board game conversion to digital done right! Well done, Dire Wolf.

Oh yeah, the game is super easy to learn, but has so much strategy to keep it interesting for many, many plays.

A very enjoyable and unique turn-based combat game. So damn fun. And the band is awesome, too!

First of all, I LOVE this game, and it pains me to have to give it a negative review. This digital version is nearly perfect, except for the multiplayer turn timer. It sucks. You only have 90 seconds to take your turn.

Now, that may be enough for the pros who know this game like the back of their hand. But it is not enough for us newbies who haven't played this game hundreds of times. And especially with the addition of the excellent "Rise of Ix" expansion, we need more time to take our turns. There are a lot of options to think about.

All the developers need to do is give us turn timer options, 90 seconds, 2 minutes, 3 minutes, unlimited time for those who want it, etc. Simple.

Yet, they continue to ignore this issue even with quite a few posts about it on the discussion boards.

Once they add more turn timer options I will change my review to positive. Until then, it's hard to enjoy multiplayer games for a newbie like me.

Very enjoyable game so far. I am only three hours in, and still haven't beaten a complete run, but I want this game to get more exposure and be known. The developers are passionate and responsive, and I hope this game is successful. It sure is a lot of fun.

I wish it wasn't a rogue-like, but instead was a full story-based game Hard West 2 and other turn-based combat RPGish games. But it is what it is, and I'm having a lot of fun.

Once I beat the game I will write a proper review, but I want the developers to be recognized as much as they can now.

Super quick review because I haven't beaten the game yet, but I wanted to give the developers more exposure as they certainly deserve it.

So far, this is a wonderful game. I have only played for four hours, but I'm REALLY enjoying it. I had never heard of this before, and it came out of nowhere for me. Just saw it while browsing new releases.

It blends turn-based combat in the JRPG style, with some simple action oriented things in combat to do a better block, etc. Nothing button mashy though.

It has a lot of charm, good story so far, platforming and puzzles are well done so far, and the combat is pretty unique and offers a lot of options. Plus you can catch creatures you fight and use them as extra attacks during battle.

I'm very glad I stumbled on this game. It is a gem in the indie world, and you should give it a try.

What a great game this is. It's my new favorite "find the things" kind of game. Lots of extra rooms to delve into as you climb the tower of history finding cats and all sorts of other collectibles. Just a very well done game, and the music is awesome, too!

There are some easter eggs hidden around, too. I found the "One Ring to Rule Them All" and got a huge smile on my face when I found it. Be on the lookout!

A super fun game. Hug your kitties every day!!

Very cool game! The puzzles are interesting and varied. The art is fantastic. The developers are super responsive in the forums.

The only negative, and it's a pretty big one, is that there is no way to reset areas, puzzles, or screens, so you can start over with everything in their original places. I understand the difficulty in implementing this, because items can be moved almost anywhere, and to reset them would be difficult to program I'm sure.

However, because there is no way to reset areas, you can lock yourself out of completing achievements with no way to ever fix it and you will never get that achievement except to restart a new game to do it the right way this time. There have already a few soft locks in the main game that the developers had to fix, but they fix them quickly. However, with the open-ended nature of this game, I can imagine there could be a LOT of people locking themselves into situations that they cannot proceed out of.

I hope the developers can come up with some kind of way to reset areas.

The game is a lot of fun, though, given this pretty big exception.

Great turn-based tactical combat game. Lots of fun. Lots of weapons. Some silly bonuses from clothing, but the bonuses gotta come from somewhere.

Lame, lame, lame DLC and season pass content. Each expansion just adds two missions that have absolutely nothing to do with the campaign. Just two missions completely separate from anything else. Ho hum . . .

And a couple weapons added to the campaign that you get right away, no waiting, just here are new weapons to use. Would have been nice if they were integrated into the campaign progression somehow. But no, pay for DLC, get overpowered weapons.

Just a disappointing DLC structure altogether. But the main campaign is a lot of fun. At least I think it is.

Super fun game. I loved Tower of Time, and I love this one equally as much. Event Horizon can do no wrong in my book, at least for their first two games. Real time with pause combat makes this very approachable for slow reaction old guys like me.

Tons of fun to be had here. Highly recommended.
