So, the game itself is workable, that is to say the core mechanics of the game are essentially metroidvania but the game tries to fit in too many concepts without flushing them out ending up in it being well meh. so to get into it:

Combat: the combat is quite repetitive, it tries to expand its use through leveling up and unlocking new abilities which sadly are practically useless if none of the enemies (except for the bosses) ALLOW you to use most of em, to elaborate, you unlock multiple extensions towards your normal attack, however your attacks provide no iframes nor do they stagger the enemies due to the presence of the second big game mechanic a stature bar. Only if the stature bar is broken is the enemy stunned allowing you to spam the attacks you find most damaging, yet to break it the most effective way is to use another big part of the game which is the gun, problem is it requires energy, energy which is shared by both your melee and your pistol. On paper it provides the player with the choice of using the gun or heavy melee moves, but the kicker is since you can buff up your melee with equipment it is basically useless for bosses and vice versa for smaller enemies.

Map: its fine, generally beautiful and decently spaced to explore with secrets to find, all and all the world connects properly and it does give it that feeling of this being an actual place,

Items: there ARE consumables.....didn't really use any of em because they are kind of useless, unless you want to help blaze through already easy bosses, other than that you have accessories that change your stats and essentially make you kinda op with the skill tree combined

Difficulty: i did not die once. the game has weird damage scaling where i see normal enemies do more damage than the actual bosses, hell at a certain point you don't even need to care about what the bosses do rarely will they ever bring you to near death if you have basic platformer/metroidvania skills, and even then you have health vials aplenty.
the only places where you might get a lot of damage is the platforming sections near the end for secrets but even those are optional

Story: aaaaaa started off quite good, became quite predictable very quickly, the pacing seams a bit lackluster or rather like they just wanted to finish the game by the end of it or maybe it was rushed i don't know.

Overall: the game feels rushed or rather like ideas kept getting thrown into the pool and they realized too late, is it a bad game? no, Is it an unplayable game? also no but i also cant particularly call it a flushed out game, i had fun and you will to probably that being said all and all if you're looking for a decent 6-8 hour game id say give it a go on sale but beware of its flaws

This game, oh this game, i bought it thinking its going to be just a call back to a classic like Kings Field, i was wrong.

The game itself does feel like a Kings Field game but with so much more, lots of story to find and lots of items in every nook and cranny, old school secret walls and multiple endings, there is a story here if you can discover it, but you don't HAVE to and can simply just enjoy playing the game, the combat is sometimes clunky but actually more complex then you'd think , but its made to be that way which is great,
you can play through the game not finding any secrets but that isn't the point of it i feel, so many ways the game makes you think like would this work, would something happen if i used this here, how does this react to this and most of the time the game does respond to that kind of questioning

all and all if you aren't aiming for the secrets and just going for the main story ending it will take you around maybe 8 to 10 hours, less maybe, 100% the game will take you a bit longer but not a lot as most of the hidden achievements are tied to the endings or getting all the stuff

this game will sit with me for a while, probably the best 10 bucks i spent in a while def don't miss out on this one if you're aiming for a nice experience

PS: you can kill death, yes death itself

Ngl even if a new JSR released, i really don't know how they could step it up:
- Nostalgic yet updated visuals of the older jsr games
- Gameplay right out of the gate of JSRF with new cool additions to expand your combos and broaden your movement,
- Beutifully designed environments that are fully thought of, the amounts of tricks you can do places you can find and reach are just great
- Gives you what nowadays i feel most games lack, the feeling of hey i see that i wonder how i can get there so you get stuck there having fun trying to reach new spots in new ways
- Funky and Fresh as always music by none other then himself Hideki Naganuma

Overall: Out of all the games released this year this game was one of if not the best game i felt like playing in a while and i just barely started, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is the missing hole you've been wanting since JSRF and honestly if you were to slap JSR name on this i would have fully believed you. This is a game made by fans for the fans of the series and it shows down deep to its absolute details.

So in the end, obviously this game is a MUST have if you feel the urge to play JSR, a 10/10
