with 1,853.1 hours into this game (at time of writing) i feel i'm qualified to write some opinions.

what is it?
If you ask the title screen, its a story generator. If you ask me, a free form colony survival game that has the right kind of difficulty. The game is a RTS but has the FTL concept of 'spacebar pauses the game' allowing you to look around at the situation and think before acting

Difficulty?
Rimworld has quite a few ingame difficulty selections along with the ability to make one custom. if the base game is too easy or too hard the workshop has things that can change that.

Characters.
If you get a indepth character creator, you WILL get attached to your colonists and you WILL feel sad when they die. Especially knowing their death was probably your fault for not herding the fools hard enough.

AI
your colonists will seem like complete and utter idiots, if you like trying to work around that go ahead. In return raiders will walk head first into your wall of turrets almost every time

Workshop
If you can think of it, its probably there. Anything from basic quality of life mods to massive content mods that change the entire game to AI changes so it is Definitely your fault when they die.

Price
I believe i got this game around $26. and i would pay for the $35 it is now. Not only do you get a base game that is insanely good, you have a massive modding community for all sorts of additions.

DLC
The Name in Game pack is only if you want to support the developer, what you get is not worth the money.
Royalty DLC adds several new mechanics to play around with and mod. For the content only, the DLC is not worth its price, if you wish to support the developer get it at its full price. Instead just wait for a sale

Conclusion
You want to break every law known to man? Yes that one too. Get rimworld.
