A new take on the MMO genre that I am used to. To put in perspective first; I haven't touched a new MMO in a very long time.

I am a huge fan of 'skill-based' combat and consider the Dark Souls series among my favorite games. Their aim was to deliver a similar style combat in New World and I can feel this.
You can dodge between doing Light attacks, Heavy attacks and charged heavy attacks. Mix in a few skills that also have the ability to animation cancel and dodges with i-frames and you have a nice base that pleases me.

Secondly I am a big fan of PvE with PvP interactions (again dark souls).
Now New World is not perfect in this regard since it is after all an MMO. You have the option to open up a so called Faction PVP tag which enables open world PvP with opposite faction members that also have this tag up.
Sadly this is not too balanced regarding Skill vs Gear. It is pretty much impossible for a low level to ever kill a high level. There is still a nice gap you can reach (Example, i killed a level 37 while being 30) but it is not as if you could turn on PvP and enjoy the game all the way to max level.

Beyond that the PvE world is fantastic. Think of a mixture between 'Conan Exiles + Runescape + Dark Souls'.
If that mixture peeks your interest you, you might be at the right place.
The main story gives you a tiny rope of guidance, often leading into new area's when you have reached the appropriate level, but with the countless side-missions, crafting options and exploration to do, it also gives you enough freedom to do as you please.

The issues so far are often regarding the infamous Queue system. However they have offered to give out a free character transfer to another server in the upcoming weeks to fix this.

Beyond that I would personally like to see a full PvP option with good rewards and balancing. Be it a better openworld experience or perhaps a queue system for public brawls.

As a last note; It has been awhile since I found a game that, when i wake up, I go check if I had enough sleep for the night and want to boot up New World.

Early Access Review
This review might be slightly biased as I am still in the hype-week.

You start out doing 6 tasks for the starting tutorial: Demolition, Mining, Repair, Flying, Resource gathering and Ship Building.

I got stuck on the first task for about an hour. I loved it.
You are tasked with demolishing a damaged ship into smaller parts, pretty much like a salvage job. For this you get several tools at your disposal. A sawblade to remove or destroy big chunks of parts. A lazerbeam to cut through entire sections of the ship and a Boltgun that allows you to unbolt parts so they fall off.
The entire ship is fully destructible to your desire. You want to cut it completely in half with the lazer? Go ahead!

The second part you are tasked to Mine 10 astroids using a pickaxe. Left click breaks up the astroids in smaller parts and right click breaks the smaller parts into gatherable resources. Once again there is something extremely satisfying about cracking up an astroid and watching the inner part being full of precious minerals to mine.

The other parts of the tutorial are pretty straight forward, repair the ship where it is damaged, learn how to fly a ship, go out and get some resources from minerals and finally upgrade your ship to have more cargospace.

Just this initial tutorial should give you a very good idea if you will like this game. It does lack an introduction into combat for I imagine it is going to be a big part of Starbase, but so far combat seems not the hardest concept to grasp.

If you are on the edge of buying this game you can consider buying it, doing the tutorial (it will take you less then 2 hours probably) and seeing where to go from there. The refund option is always handy in a case like this.

Slightly biased review as I am an inner Star Wars fanboy.

So far the game delivered to me what I was expecting from it, a solid dog fighter with build in class- and customization options.
You get to pick 4 basic classes in a game which have several big customization options:
You could choose to have a very resistant hull but lose speed and manouverability or you could go for a hull that makes locking on harder, pick an engine that blows up after you die, get a shield that gives you 50% damage reduction but never regenerates once it depletes. Futher there are plenty of offensive, defensive and supportive options regarding weapons and tools.
Plenty of options to really get a unique build going.

The singleplayer campaign is actually not crap, from what i read it is about 7 hours of content. The thing that suprised me most is that I was still learning new moves a few missions inwards.

Downside of the game is that 'currently' the content is not amazing. You have a few options to modify your ship's looks and cockpit, and several helmets and outfits for your pilot. It does not take long to unlock these which is both a plus and a con.

But all in all I would recommend this game if you are looking for that specific gameplay, cause currently it definatly is a gap in the market, and you won't find anything alike.

Once you manage to get past the grind and into a tier of your liking you can really start customizing to the full.

Every single game you will find builds you have not seen before.

One of those hidden treasures inbetween F2P games.
It looks stunning for a simple space shooter, my computer can run it smoothly without any problems and the effects are eyegasmic.
The gameplay is excactly as a spaceshooter should be: Dogfights, sniperbattles or torpedo barrages, chose your liking!
In the end sweeping around an astroid barely touching it, jumping into an enemy fleet, killing the weak interceptors and running off again is how i love to play :)
TRY IT, IT'S FREE, SO CANT HURT YOU!
The notes about P2W are rather false, you can get ingame currency which you can buy upgraded weapons and modifications for but the same items are able to be bought with research and normal ingame currency.
9.5/10 as it's still in a beta :)

Epic Sci-fi game, you need good ping though, or you'll be lagging around.
And for all those lost souls that think this is a tf2 replica, go ♥♥♥♥ your mom, as since when can you jetpack, do quests, control robots, place drones, throw grenades, deploy mines, loot bodies and be in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ future in tf2?
