I sense this game might be a gem in the rough, but it will take a LOT of polish to get there. The foundations are solid, which gives me hope for the future. I quite enjoy the way cities expand naturally without need for builders, the combat is much improved by the addition of commanders, and the eras + civ swapping mechanics are quite interesting and make for varied gameplay. Currently though, this game is in a very unfinished state with glaring UI issues, half-baked systems in desperate need of refinement, a less than competent AI, a sad lack of game setup options, and a load of simple QoL features found in previous iterations that were, for whatever reason, completely left out in this one.

Cutting out content like civs & leaders to sell them as day 1 DLC is already scummy practice, but with the current pricing it's absolutely egregious.

Looks stunning and feels awesome to play when your build starts to take off but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ there are WAY too many interactable cutscene and dialogue sections frontloaded into the main story.

this game is sort of like a labor camp (and not in a good way!!)

my guys keep dying and failing re-rolls on GFI's but it feels good when it happens to the other guy for a change
