Civilization 5 is perhaps the greatest entry in Sid Meier's legendary series. The small changes all end up being improvements, with the two most obvious being the games move from square tiles to hexagons, and the removal of the ability to keep many units on the same space.

Although rocky in the early days, the Multiplayer is also great fun! Two years ago it would crash regularly and was virtually unplayable, but the last few times I've tried it I've had no issues. Play coop with a buddy to teach them the game or get a bunch of friends together for a game of secret aliances and giant wars.

If you like the idea of managing countries this is one of the greatest games of all time. It is complex but easy to pick up, which separates it from other entries in the genre. The fact that its turn based means even those not experienced as gamers can learn the game at their own pace.
