Optimization is terrible and the player base has too many main character syndrome people who want to only play damage dealers no matter bad the game is going. There's no role queue, and apparently the devs have said they don't plan to add one, which is a choice that was made that will inevitably lead to the game dying. Balancing still needs to be done, but that's every game when it first comes out.

They made some good choices with the battlepass, but that won't save the game. I'll be shocked if the game lasts a year.

UPDATE: Not sure if the game is just horribly coded, the servers are terrible, or cheating is incredibly easy, but playing Scarlet Witch and doing 0 damage with her ult hitting 5 people tells me the game is broken in some way. No counter play from the other team that could have stopped the damage. Her ult did 0 damage that entire match despite constantly landing it on various people, but yeah, game doesn't have any bugs.

2nd Update: Just had my first crash. 10gb dump file. I don't know how bad they are at coding, but no game should have a dump file a quarter of the size of it's game.

I'm not too far in compared to my Hades 1 time on Switch, but it feels like more of the same but better. You can tell it's still being developed, which isn't bad. All in all if you played the first one in EA then you'll like this one in EA as well.

I'd stay away from the discussion board, though. It's riddled with "omg this game is woke" trash that have never played this or the first Hades.

Larian screwed up big time with Baldur's Gate 3. They made such a good game where you can do almost anything you want to accomplish a goal while basically fully voicing the entire game that future RPGs are going to be measured against it for years to come.

They listened to the community multiple times without dramatically changing the game and abandoning their vision for it. I put only a hand full of hours into the EA because I didn't want to see too much of Act 1 or the story so that I'd be slogging or running through it come full launch. I can tell you that the tutorial zone changed a few times between it's first EA iteration and the final product. I'm still finding new stuff that I don't know if I missed originally or if it was added later because of how massive this game is.

In case anyone is curious, a bard dual wielding salamis is a valid build in Act 1.

It's been over a year, and it's still a great game.

I guess I technically got this for free since I bought in to the EA when it first came out. None of what's given is game breaking or makes life easier (unless you count the potions). Even the D:OS2 dagger is just cosmetic. It's the exact same stats as the daggers you find laying around. All in all it's a good DLC given to those who supported early access. They offered it to others for an additional price instead of making it "founders only." The OST alone is worth the price, but if you don't want to pay for that, Larian made it available to stream on Spotify.

If you're looking for an alternative to Phasmophobia or anything like that look further. This game ain't it, fam. The graphics are mid. The controls are straight up trash. It's got a couple of neat tools/equipment that Phasmo doesn't have, but man does it just feel bad to play.

Picture this. You're playing literally any game with a gun. You have a shotgun. You go to pick up ammo for said shotgun. You'd think you would just pick up the ammo, right?

WRONG

You drop the shotgun and pick up the ammo. The developer said something along the lines of "the shotgun needs 2 hands to be used, so you can't pick up ammo when holding it. Before if you tried to pick up ammo nothing would happen. We think this is a big improvement." Really? you think dropping a gun, that you can easily hold in one hand long enough to pick something up, is an improvement?

If that wasn't a bad enough design, this could be played with an old Apple mouse. Why? Because LMB is never used with any of the equipment. The only time it's used is to mark off evidence or open a door, which is super janky even by shovelware standards.

I usually do not talk bad about EA games because they are in development and they could change, but holy mary mother of jesus in a purple suit on a cracker with cheese is this game hella rough. I bought the game on sale and I can honestly say it's over priced. At most at full release this game should be 9.99 USD. In it's current state half that would be generous.

So yeah, if you're looking for a good phasmo style game this is definitely not it. I'd give it more of a shot but at 40 minutes in I'm not going to risk trying to give it more time to prove it self and risk missing my refund period.

Check out Ghost Exile instead. That game plays way better and the crunchy aspects are way less annoying than this game is. Plus the jump scares are much better and the controls aren't garbage water.

Currently, the game is selling for 44.99 USD. It has an optional premium battle pass that you can only get if you spend 10 USD. So long as you keep playing the game and max out your BP levels will you be able to buy the next pass for free. If you're short on levels you won't get the premium in game currency, again for a 44.99 USD game, to buy the next pass, which you'll have to max out in order to buy the next pass without spending additional money.

If you're okay with that, then go for it. Buy the game. It's not bad. I bought it back when I was lacking a pokemon game for several years since I didn't see a reason to get a DS/3DS and SW/SH didn't scratch the itch enough. Granted, I think it was like 20 USD back then, so the price has definitely increased.

UPDATE: Mods are banning people from the discussion board who are speaking out against the in-game monetization. They're actively avoiding punishing the fanboys who are flaming people who are critical of the game.

I haven't bothered trying to play this failure of a game since a few months after launch. I was excited back then to play it. It was good, up until around lvl 30 when I realized that the game was so poorly made. Botting was a MASSIVE problem and AGS did absolutely nothing to stop it. People took to blocking bots in with tents to keep them from farming because AGS just let it happen.

I've heard rumors of them fixing the botting problem, but likely people stopped running bots because the player base has died out. They lost several millions of subscribers in a few months because of how poorly the game was handled. There were countless game breaking exploits that they had no clue how to fix, and when they did try to fix them AGS broke the game more. There was even a time where they had a server skip ahead a month. This destroyed the server. They claimed they couldn't rollback the server, which means they had 0 backups. This is, of course, during a time where server queues were in the thousands and it took hours to login.

Keep all that in mind. We paid 60 USD for this horrible game, and we supported them for as long as we could.

The game isn't work 40 USD. It isn't worth 23.99 USD.

At best this game is worth 4.99 USD, and even that's stretching it.

The game should have gone F2P last year, but even then I don't think I could recommend it.

Let's be honest, you're not going to buy this game off of this review. You're going to watch a video on youtube or someone play it on Twitch. You're going to find out that the game is as fun as it looks.

Or

You're going to look at the video and screen shots and say to yourself, "Hey, this looks fun" while seeing it's like other games you've played.

Then you're going to get it.

Then you're going to play it.

Then you're going to enjoy it.

If Hexen and DUSK had a baby and then fell in love with metal music.

Come on. Nothing I say is going to convince you to buy this game. You already know you want to buy this game. If you don't want to buy this game then you have made bad decisions in your life.

My first experience was accidentally stumbling upon the hardest difficulty in the game. Dave Oshry laughed at me when I told him this. 10/10 would die repeatedly again for Dave's amusement.
