A short and sweet Sonic Adventure, wrapped neatly into a surprisingly well-made visual novel. The story follows typical murder mystery whodunit conventions, while retaining a lot of the charm that the Sonic series is known for with some witty writing and a theme around friendship. Despite being fairly linear with straightforward puzzles, the writing packs a lot of humor remaining faithful to the characters' different personalities. In addition to the VN style gameplay, there are fun segments involving a simple yet satisfying minigame that ramps up in difficulty to keep things fresh. The art style is also quite strong, placing a lot of identity into each of the characters while still bringing something new to the table. The color palette is an absolute delight and the soundtrack was a joy to listening through, comprising a tasty blend of synth jazz and 90s influences. This is probably the best presentation a Sonic game has had since Sonic Mania and I really do hope this marks a shift in direction that the franchise has desperately been needing. I definitely do see the potential of what more they could have done with the concept, but as a free title, this was a real treat. Definitely recommend it to anyone that is a fan of Sonic games, even if visual novels aren't your cup of tea.
