It is. It's more or less the draw of the game. It's fair though, and it punishes mistakes and careless players. It's difficulty also makes it very satisfying when you actually accomplish something. There are no saves - it's a running save, and whenever you die, you go back to a checkpoint and all enemies respawn. It's much like old-school games where you could get one-hit-ko'd by grunt enemies if you were being careless.
