Say NO to checkpoint-only saves! A game's level of difficulty should be defined by skill not patience. Checkpoints don't make games more difficult or fun, they just make them more frustrating because it still takes the same skill to complete the tasks but accidents are not tolerated and instead punished, which leads to frustration, killing enjoyment and replayability. Checkpoints also make a game naturally less fluid as difficult moments are made more predictable by preceding checkpoints. They also discourage exploration as the more you veer away from a checkpoint the more likely it is that you'll need to repeat that last frustrating path you just went through if you die. Being able to load and save when you wish encourages tactical experimentation and thus extract the most fun from a game.

Checkpoint-only saving has no place in gaming. Let the gamer have the power to decide their gaming experience - say No to checkpoints!
