STORY

Conan the mighty pig has a story that is open to much speculation. It is implied by the title that the pig you play as is named Conan and was for some reason granted the epithet, "the mighty pig," most likely earning it for proving his strength during combat. Ironically, Conan does not display any strength and has to sneak around tougher opponents and has to use herbs to get past bees. After years of owning a farm and not making profit (speculation of the story told without dialogue) he decides to move on from the farm and look for truffles. Truffles can potentially be very expensive in a larger size and are found in the ground by animals like pigs and trained dogs in real life and are profitable if the time and effort are put in to the labor, so it is reasonable that Conan would make the choice to look for truffles. He sets off on his quest to find one hundred fifty truffles.

My honest opinion on the story is that it is too reliant on the silent, mysterious approach to telling the tale instead of giving concrete facts on what is happening through dialogue or text. It is very underwhelming and not is what you should purchase the game for if you are looking for a story.

GAMEPLAY

When I played this game it felt some mechanics of other games are being recycled. The pig sniffing for herbs and other articles of potential pig food is a mechanic that reminded me of witcher senses from The Witcher 3. I felt the sniffing mechanic was a good throwback and improved on the flawed witcher 3 version. The sneaking mechanic in Conan the mighty pig seems to borrow ideas from the Metal Gear Solid franchise like how you must sneak in grass to avoid your enemy, where in this game the enemy is a wolf instead of humans. My biggest gripe with any elements of gameplay that seem to borrow from other games is the double jumping mechanic. That is obviously a rip off of Titanfall and I am seriously upset how blatant it was they stole Titanfall's idea. My final verdict on the gameplay is they heavily improve the mechanics they are borrowing, however they are borrowing too many ideas from rivaling companies like Konami and CD Projekt Red.

PERFORMANCE/GRAPHICS

Much like Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, Conan the mighty pig is locked at a depressing 30 FPS. This restricts you from competitive play and makes the overall quality of the game drop but I must admit it adds to the games atmosphere. The only way to get above 60 FPS is by modding the game, potentially opening yourself up to breaking the game if installed incorrectly. If you are willing to play at 30 FPS, this game may be for you. If you are a 60 FPS junky like myself, this game is off limits without going through hours of modifying its .ini files.

The graphics of the game are where it truly shines. The well sized map allows for multiple environments from lush green forests that make your head spin in awe to the untouched tundra in the Arctic. They are pretty to look at thanks to the game’s modern engine which has real time lighting. There are no poorly created textures or clipping that I could find in my time on the game. This game will be easy on yours eyes.

MUSIC
When you are playing a game, you should often be hearing music. Music is what will remember when you are finished playing the game. If the music from the game is good, it may give you a nostalgic experience and you will be craving more gameplay. The music in this game is up to par in the industry. It is extremely trippy and will calm your nerves to a near sedated state that will have you hypnotized. During gameplay, you will love chilling to the tunes and collecting truffles while you do it.
FINAL VERDICT
Pros
• Graphics are pretty
• Improved gameplay mechanics from other games
• Reminiscent of classics like Domestic Dog Simulator and Turbo Pug
• Truffles look tasty and are a joy to collect
• Multiple endings that are open to interpretation, much like Dark Souls and Counter-Strike.
• Trippy music
Cons
• 30 FPS Lock
• Lack of originality
• Story leaves much to be desired
• Stole ideas like double jumping from Titanfall
• The overall concept this game agrees with is offensive and untrue. It tries too hard to spread the idea of multiple genders like “demi sexual” and “pig,” both very inappropriate things to identify as. I am very upset with the political incorrectness found in this title.
• Women are identified as objects in game.
This game is a must buy if it is on sale if you want a relaxing experience and jam out to some chill tracks. Hopefully the multiplayer update will allow for me to sink more minutes in to the franchise.
