Bought the game hungover
Two days later I joined a regiment
A month later I suddenly lead a bunch of neeks
Now my life revolves around a game where it takes 12 seconds to reload
Would recommend

Alright. As of me writing this, I've been playing 27 hours, finished the Dwarven long campaign, and I'm currently on my Empire campaign. Karl Franz, plz be my waifu.

So I wanna throw in my two cents with all of you, and hope I can either persuade you to buy it or not, depending on what you're looking for in a Total War game.

I've also collected a bit of Warhammer Fantasy, but mainly I'm a 40k lover.

This is going to be a pros/cons because I'm an unimaginative arsehole.

PROS

  • The world
I'm surprised that we've first seen a Total War game with the Warhammer lisence now. It just works so well together. The battles almost feel like a real-time version of the tabletop game, just without the dice.

  • The lore
With my knowledge of the Warhammer Fantasy lore, the developers have done well with sticking to the original lore, and not going with that weird Age of Smegmar stuff GW put out last year. The lore also gives each faction special mechanics. An example would be the Dwarves having their Great Book of Grudges. If another faction takes a hostile action against you, it will be written down in the Book, and give you a quest to get revenge. If you don't carry out, the grudge lingers and will have negative effects on your empire.
Da orks will get restless if they haven't seen battle in a long time, resulting in attrition damage because of infighting. But if you do battle a lot, it will result in a Waaaaagh!, giving you a free army to wreak havoc upon your foes.

  • The factions
The factions, albeit being few in numbers, are all very unique and interesting. As stated above, the lore lends very interesting mechanics to each one of them.

  • The looks
Now I've only played this game on a GTX 970 and an i5 6600k @ 4.2GHz, so it's not top-of-the-line specs. But even there, the graphics are gorgerous. The colors are grim, as is the Old World.

  • Optimization
Alright, this is the interesting part. After Rome II and Attila, which had horrendous launches, TW:Warhammer gets it right. I know some people have had problems, but apparently and obviously, it's gonna get fixed. I've experienced a single crash, but that was not really a problem, concindering the game auto-saves at every turn.
The game ran smoothly, both on the campaign map and in battles, no problem whatsoever. This may vary from user to user, mostly depending on specs/graphics settings.

Besides all of that, it plays in a very similar faction to other Total War games, as to be expected. The Warhammer reskin makes for a VERY interesting game, though. You can see that the developers love and respect Warhammer.

    CONS

  • The lack of factions
Now, most of you probably know that there's only 4 availible factions in the base game, 5 with the "pre-order/first week buy" DLC. I wouldn't have had a problem with this, if there'd, been sub-factions, like being able to play as Bretonnia for the Empire, or different Ork clanz, but no. I don't doubt mods will fix this, but it's kind of a let-down, and reduces replayability.
    >inb4 DLC

  • World size
Because of the small faction pool, the world isn't as big as other Total War games. It doesn't matter that much to me, but it might bother some a lot.

  • Lore mechanics
Alright, I know I said a lot of good stuff about the lore mechanics, and mostly it's really good, but there's a few downsides.
First of all, only Orks and Dwarves may capture each others cities, and only The Empire and Vampire Count can capture each others. Now, you can RAZE and PLUNDER everybody's cities and settlements, so it's possible to wipe out everybody, but not control every city.

Also, the grudge mechanics? Also gives you quests on the other side of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ world.

    THE MAYBE

  • Warhammer
Now, if you're not a fan of Warhammer, I don't doubt this game will be boring for you. You'd most likely be better off playing Shogun II/Rome II/Attila. The game feels as a loveletter to Warhammer fans, and therefore, with the lack of factions and replayability, not really appeal to non-fans.

I know I haven't listed a lot of different pros/cons, but I've listed what my subjective self has experienced. 27 hours isn't a lot in a game that takes a hundred or more hours to fully explore, but it's kind of a first impression.
I'd definitely recommend buying it, and if you're not that familiar with the tabletop version, I'd recommend you pick it up, maybe you'll fall for the expensive as ♥♥♥♥ hobby that is Warhammer!

TL;DR: Good game if you love warhammer. If hesitant, buy on sale.

There's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of new content. Been playing around 11 hours, and I'm still not done with my first playthrough.

Also, the sarcastic dialog options are funny as hell.

I've played almost every game in this franchise, and I've loved each and every one of them.
New Vegas is probably my favorite game of all time, yet I have spent more time playing this one. It's kind of strange.

A lot of people are angry about the lack of RPG elements in this game, and this game certainly isn't an RPG the same way that the older games were, it's still a Fallout game.

Being a Fallout game, atleast for me, isn't about the RPG elements, as some people feel, but more about the atmosphere. The feeling I get from exploring a nuked-out America, the futuristic 50'ies culture, the Nuka Cola, all that stuff.

Am I sad that Fallout 4 lacks the RPG parts? Sure. I love RPG's to death.
But I feel that, even with all the negative parts, the positives of the game outweighs it.

The world is beautiful. I don't really know what else to say about it.

The story was a lot better than anticipated, especially after Fallout 3. Even though there isn't as much choice as New Vegas, it's interesting how I liked every faction for one reason or another, unlike New Vegas. I had some sort of either sympathy or empathy with each group.

In-game modding. I just love the feeling of upgrading my weapons and armor, going from a simple laser pistol to a fully automatic laser rifle. It feels really satisfying, to say the least.

Mods. Yeah, actual mods you download and install. They've always been a huge part of Bethesda games, and they sure as hell also are now. Everything from better graphics to new weapons. I can't wait to see what big projects will come up in the future.

The combat. Now, shooting felt really wonky in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. But, correct me if I'm wrong, Id Software stepped in and made this part of the game, and holy ♥♥♥♥, did they succeed in making something that feels good.

There's definitely also some things that I don't really enjoy, like the limited dialogs and no skill-checks for interesting conversations about certain topics like you would have in the older games.

All in all, I love this game. It wasn't what I hoped it would be, but it still turned out good.

Early Access Review
First of all, the game is in no way "bad" in itself. There's a LOT of potential to be had from this game.
Since it's still early access, there's bound to be more stuff comming, and I CANNOT wait for that. (Unless this is DayZ in disguise, huehue)

TL;DR
Not bad game, much potential.
Is in balancing process, so feels too easy.
Does not feel incentivised to build huge production chains
Would not recommend in current state (state of balancing), but keep a lookout on the updates. I, for one, cannot wait to play it when that part is done :)

It pains me to give this one a thumbs down.
Really
It reminds so much of the older settlers games, which will always be my favorite series in this genre.
The problem is, after the first 20 minutes, it's just the same every single map.
Also, it's the developers behind the game series Cultures, another great series.

In each map, or island, you have to open a portal and get through it. This can be done by either fighting the portal guardians, or making a sacrifice.

The problem here is that the sacrifices take a max of 5 minutes per map, and the same with fighting. It's just way too easy, and kind of boring in the end, even frustratingly so.

For the most part, I haven't had to construct any interesting production chains, since even though you can build a long chain to bake bread, the sacrifice only needs like 15 wood logs, the easiest resource to obtain.
Sure, I could just build myself those chains, but with zero reason, there's zero incentive.

As I said, having to vote this down pains me. But until devs make it "harder", or give me any reason to invest more time into each map, this verdict will stand.

Stood with three friends in a circle, gave the f-finger to each other, then got killed by two guys with machine guns. 12/10 best game ever.
