after bouncing off of Pillars of Eternity 2 and Divinity: Original Sin, this is the one that finally clicked for me. cant exactly say why, but at the very least i'm not alone in finding this game utterly captivating. it's sheer ambition, aided by quality writing, overcomes the technical flaws the game has; Fallout: New Vegas has clearly inoculated me against janky rpg's with a lot of heart.

Early Access Review
In short, a more-than-worthy successor to Warband with all the extra bells and whistles one could expect from a sequel whilst maintaining the special qualities its predecessor had, but refined. Some bugs are present, but none that are game breaking, at least so far.
The soundtrack isn't something I thought I'd be talking about in a Mount and Blade game, but it's worth talking about for Bannerlord; all the little flourishes after events like finishing a battle, or completing a quest make those moments feel really special. Also, MUSIC IN TAVERNS! My immersion is restored and bolstered ten-fold.
The new factions that can be found in cities and villages also provide more choices for playthroughs than Warband provided. Things like gang leaders and the associated 'Crime Rating' they often have you increasing for yoursellf make fantasies like 'Medieval Tony Montana' possible, and the refined economic mechanics make the experience of becoming a true Swadian Butterlord not only doable but fun and reasonably easy.
In short, if youre one of the 3.64 people in the world who didnt play Warband, you ought to feel no shame in starting with Bannerlord, as it is an improvement on Warband in every important regard. Despite being in Early Access, the game is incredibly well polished and will only become more-so with further development. A game for unwashed, mutated peasants and horribly inbred nobility alike.

P.S. No "I WILL DRINK FROM YOUR SKULL" or "IT'S HARVESTING SEASON" 0/10 sh!t game.

Enjoy not being able to go back to Total War: Shogun 2 after this. No reason. I wouldn't know anything about that, personally.

(I need doomwheels forever now. It's an addiction. I need rehab.)

Really compelling game about ruling over a kingdom, and essentially playing a grand balancing game, with a two-choice system of picking outcomes. Every time you die, you start playing again as the succeeding king, and this goes on ad infinitum, so far as I've played, but this never really gets to be annoying, in fact, I always felt the urge to play another 'round' of the game, if you will.

The characters, albeit quite simple, are compelling, and along with the surprisingly robust world building the game preforms, makes for a kingdom you actually care about ruling properly, and in my own experience, I always wanted to get better; I wanted to be BETTER than the previous generation's king, and I wanted to do the tasks set out by the game.

This is all made far easier to digest and appreciate by the game's simple and unique art styles, consisting primarily of colorful geometric shapes used in unison to form the characters and scenery of the game. It's really memorable, and I always find myself remembering the characters I've seen before BECAUSE of just how unique they look (Like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell I can remember any of the names, though)

I can't honestly level any criticism at the game. I guess any would-be critique of the game would come down to personal grievances with it, and that's fair, but I dont have any of my own. The games sets out to do what it does and it does that well.

This game, in all its simplicity and almost utter practicality, manages to be a memorable, enjoyable title, that's worth so much more than its minute asking price. I'd highly reccomend this to anyone; It's the kind of experience you won't find elsewhere, I'd wager, and again, the game's price is definitely a positive in this regard.

So uh, yeah, it's alright.

trial and error with a side of ambiguous hitboxes: the game.

okay seriously now, i didnt enjoy my time with this game. i understand that many people have a masochistic streak and would *love* a game like this, one that forces them to die over and over again ad nauseum, but it's not for me, as someone who likes to know he died because of a legitimate mistake he made, and not some janky mechanic or hidden ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

but hey, the graphics are pretty. i like pretty graphics. pretty graphics are nice.
