Deus Ex is a cyberpunk-themed, action-adventure sci-fi game developed by Eidos. It is an FPS but shows our character from the third-person perspective once behind a cover. The game, thus, puts a lot of emphasis on stealth-based approach taking down enemies one by one without allowing them to see us. The more silent approach you pick the more experience point you obtain after a successful takedown, therefore, the easier to level up. Once at a new level you can spent your hard-earned Praxis points on various skills further enhancing your capabilities: you can learn taking down enemies by smashing through walls, you can run and jump almost silently or if you want you can just become invisible for a short period of time.

There are two areas where Deux Ex shines:
1) Story: You need to find out why Sarif Industries, the world's leading nanotechnology firm was attacked by an unknown group of mercenaries. You look for clues in Detroit and overseas in China, Singapore and even Australia. Each city offers a lot of side missions for you to further develop your skills and to get to know more of the story or just the world Deux Ex takes place in. It is common that you can make a decision as to how you want to accomplish a mission: if the requests are coming from more people you can decide who you'll favour eventually. There are collectibles in the form of e-books providing you with further background of the year 2027.
2) Gameplay: As mentioned, while running and gunning is also an option the game is best played by picking the silent approach: each section offers extra bonus if you do not eliminate anyone and if nobody sees you coming. I also liked the hacking sequences - I hacked each and every panel in the game even when Jensen was in possession of the code to unlock a specific door or to turn off the turrets aimed to protect a certain area.

Now, the Director's Cut is a newer version and has been available for a while instead of the vanilla edition. It comes bundled with the game's DLC and offers some graphics and AI improvements. As you can see from the store page patches were released as the DR version suffered from some pretty annoying bugs. Personally, I did not encounter any of these and I liked how they changed the boss battles in favour of those who decided to remain silent assassins throughout the game. The Director's Cut employs more vivid colours - I can understand this irritates some people. We have some documentary videos, audio commentaries and the good old new game plus mode which is so famous nowadays.

Overall, I was satisfied with Deus Ex and with the Director's Cut I completed the game 3 times. That's 3 times 30-35 hours if you complete all side-missions and talk to everybody and explore every corner just to see if there are some extra equipment or Praxis Kits lying around. What's more is that the game offers 4 endings but in order to be able to see all of them you need to complete a lot of missions in the last segment of the game.

If you want a story-oriented, long-lasting cyberpunk experience then Deux Ex is for you. With the Director's Cut coupled with a discounted price you cannot make the wrong decision by purchasing Human Revolution.
