Cultic hearkens back to old-school classics like Blood and Duke Nukem, though the developer's main inspirations are Resident Evil 4 and Dark Forces 2. And if you're a fan of these tiles, you're be sure to enjoy Cultic. On it's surface it's appears to be a rather standard horror-themed old-style shooter, with throwable dynamite that will remind you of the first game above, but it has enough new game-play additions to keep things interesting. You can kick and slide to evade attacks, aiming for headshots is very rewarding, both in terms of damage and the occasional slow motion effect it will trigger. Weapons have alternate fire modes and can be upgraded through the use of workbenches and weapon parts that are strewn throughout the map-incentivizing thorough searching of the maps for secrets.
One important note is that despite it's classic styling, the moment to moment gameplay actually favors a more slower and careful approach to combat, which is likely where the RE4 inspiration comes in. Certainly the action can be fast and hectic sometimes, but this isn't a game where you'll be bunny hoping everywhere doing 360 no-scopes with your revolver. Utilizing the environment to your advantage is very important, as well as throwing dynamite around corners and getting headshots on faraway enemies before they can attack you.
It's this style of gameplay that really suits the game well, especially in the sections that veer more towards horror over action. Even though they are brief preludes in the grand scheme of the game's action sections, they are done very well and often introduce new enemy types in interesting ways.
Lengthwise it took me about 7 hours to play through the game's first chapter and interlude mission on the hard difficulty, which are the only ones available now. At the current price of 12.99CAD, I think that's a fair return, and the game is fun enough to try again on harder difficulties. There's also a survival mode, but I haven't played that yet. Future chapters will be DLC however, which may put some people off as the game ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but we don't know the pricing or length of that yet, so it's hard to say.
Basically, if this game looks interesting to you, I definitely recommend checking it out, there's also a demo, so what do you have to lose?!

GTA meets Blade Runner. It's not perfect, but V's story is worth the price of admission.

Fibrillation HD is a fun, short, and quite creepy little indie title. If you like abstract and brutalist architecture mixed with exploration and unnerving entities out to devour your life force, then you'll undoubtedly enjoy your time with this. Each level is pretty short, but they all offer something unique so things don't seem dragged out of repeated simply for the sake of padding the game's length.

It's an indie title so the graphics are pretty barebones, but what it does do it does pretty darn well, and the style matches the game's atmosphere. About the only negative I could give it is that the higher level of detail of props and entities stands out a bit too much from the lower detailed levels themselves. Perhaps a bit more time could've been spent detailing the levels here and there.

Necromunda is a fun, is slightly undertuned, blend of Doom Eternal style gameplay mixed the the special abilities akin to games like Deus Ex or Eye: Divine Cybermancy, all within the Warhammer universe.

While at first it starts out like your stock futuristic FPS shooter, very soon in the game your character unlocks various cybernetic enhancements and other abilities that drastically affect how you approach encounters. From abilities that let you do things like: slow down time, auto-target enemies, shoot blasts of energy from you hands, jump several stories high, teleport, and of course, a handy grapple that lets you zip around the level, combat quickly becomes a high speed and often vertical affair, as you dodge and zoom around the map, dodging attacks as you dish out damage from your own multitude of weapons.

And you'll need to dodge, because on anything higher than normal the enemies hit harder and accurately. The game offsets this by giving the player a dodge bonus when sliding, double jumping or running on walls, as well as the ability to regain health by attacking enemies after being damaged. For the most part this works well, though I found that sliding and double jumping were the most useful movement abilities. A lot of the maps didn't seem very well suited for wall running, and though the game does have an ability that grants a degree of autoaim when doing so, I never found it as easy to use compared to combining jumping and/or sliding with shooting. But once you understand what the gameplay loop the devs were aiming for, the game really shines.

On Hard or higher you'll likely "die" a lot, and I put die in quotations because you can buy stimpacks that revive you automatically on death with full armor and shields. You can carry a max of three, but there are several points in missions where you can buy more (if you have the cash, and sometimes even during big fights) so while it may feel overwhelming at first, I do recommend hard difficulty over normal, because the challenge really makes you utilize all of your abilities to dish out damage while also regaining health to stay alive. On normal I never really felt in danger.

Campaign wise, the story isn't anything amazing, but the levels were quite impressive looking and had a lot of room to explore. Extra loot can be found in hidden chests throughout the maps, and while you do get an ability that makes finding these pretty trivial, I appreciated them nonetheless. In addition, the maps themselves are very open, with a lot of verticality and often multiple routes to your target, giving you freedom to explore and fight as you please.

It's not a very long game, with limited replayability after the main campaign (the side missions are really just padding to grind out money for upgrades for your cybernetics if you're feeling underpowered) but I quite enjoyed my time with it and would definitely pick up a sequel or DLC that added more missions.

Oh, and you get a doggie that you can pet, upgrade and sick on your enemies, so that makes it even better. :)

Just as good as the first one, if not more. If you like horror, this is a must play.

This time around you have a friend to help, and be helped by, along the way. It's done quite well with them often taking initiative, in some ways offering slight hints on what to do and it also creates more interesting scenarios when monsters are after you that don't revolve around you having to do escort duty like in many other games with a companion.

There's a few issues that keep it from being perfect though. The main ones being that the 3D depth issues make it easier to snag yourself on obstacles when running away, or missing a jump by aiming too much up or down. This makes some challenges harder than they need to be as you'll waste precious seconds, often resulting in your death. Not a huge issue though as death has little consequence, but there were a few frustrating parts in the game because of it.
