You've got the get out of here. Listen to me, Shephard. Those things... they'll kill all of us...
Half-Life: Opposing Force is an expansion for Half-Life, that surprisingly wasn't made by Valve, but actually by Gearbox Software, and then released by Valve. There isn't much to talk about the gameplay and graphics in general, except for some things.

Starting with the story though, instead of Gordon Freeman, you are Corporal Adrian Shephard, a U.S. Marine being sent to Black Mesa to act upon an mission that is not detailed, but things go extremely wrong, as we find ourselves once again fighting for survival against the Xen Aliens and mysterious creatures called "Race X". You are also against your own government agents, for reasons that you will still find out.

Unlike the original Half-Life, Opposing Force presents to us a new arsenal of weapons, with the biggest difference being that instead of a Crowbar, you use a Wrench as your melee weapon at the start of the game, and after a while, you get a Combat Knife to use instead of the Wrench. However, when it comes to gameplay, I think that's where it ends in difference to the original Half-Life. After that, there isn't much to talk about the gameplay.

However, although it is just an short expansion (I was able to finish it under 5 hours, if I didn't play bad in some parts of the game I could have finished in under 4 hours), the game adds to the original story and adds nice details, while still being fun just like the original Half-Life.

Overall, I personally don't really recommend to buy the game at full price. Just wait for a sale and then buy it, but that doesn't mean the game is bad, it's just that you can use the money you buy on this game to buy other games that are more complete.

All of my reviews are based on my personal experience and most of the time, also on the experience of the game's players, to be able to bring a general vision of what the game can provide you.

They're waiting for you, Gordon. In the Test Chamber.
Half-Life is a classic that practically thousands of people around the world have played, and it is the game that practically paved the way for many games to have a foundation. Nowadays, even though the game is old, it's still a fun and unique game, where the whole game was one of the first where you're in first-person in everything, and the same comes with its story, which reveals only to you what you're seeing and hearing, without the use of cutscenes or anything that takes away the player's control to be able to show something, resulting in immersive and well-constructed gameplay.

Speaking of its synopsis and a bit of history, we are in the shoes of Dr. Gordon Freeman, a 27-year-old man with an MIT degree, and he is late to arrive at the Anomalous Materials Laboratory, which is where he works within Black Mesa, or by the full name, The Black Mesa Research Center. However, this will not be any normal day, and perhaps because he arrived too late, he will suffer terrible consequences that could not be foreseen.

The game also made it possible for many games like Counter-Strike to exist, and currently the GoldSrc Engine (the engine in which the game was made), is still used to make various mods, but on a smaller scale nowadays. However, the game still has several amazing mods made for it, many of which can be found on ModDB and other websites, each one more different than the other.

Overall, Half-Life is a classic that is practically a must-buy for anyone who enjoys FPS, and who especially enjoys old games, the game is simply very well made and is currently in an excellent state to get here on Steam, without needing any mod or something external to be able to enjoy the game, as Valve has already fixed multiple issues with today's modern PC port of the game in its latest major update.

My recommendation? Buy it, but I think it's better on sale, because if you want to cheapen the price, you can also buy the sequel to it, Half-Life 2, the two together give a price of approximately 10 BRL here in Brazil, which is very worthwhile, and if you want to spend more on the sale, take advantage of it and buy all of the famous and incredible games that Valve has already made, which in total is 27 BRL here in Brazil.
