the complaints about EOS not being mentioned before launch are justified, but the degree to which you're forced to engage with Epic are minimal. once you auto-generate an Epic account and link it, you won't see it again on subsequent game launches. EGS launcher is not required.

the game no longer requires signing into or creating an Epic account on your first start-up, so the above is no longer relevant.

besides all that, this is by far my favorite EDF game of all time. Sandlot once again takes everything good about their 21 year old formula and iterates upon it with quality-of-life improvements and cool new features. the improvements to enemy and friendly NPC behaviors (in addition to new units entirely) help to create some of the most intense and exciting combat scenarios yet. throw in some cool new set piece scripting, and you're in for a wild ride.

if you were wondering how things could possibly continue to go down after the end of EDF 5, then just you wait, because sh*t goes so f*cking Down it's unreal

a fantastic spin-off that was clearly made by long-time fans of the EDF franchise. new to the series or old, you'll find something to love in here. it helps that it plays quite well too.

and it's pretty funny. a mission to find the mothership was put on hold because we met a hungry ninja. the mission then changed to collecting ingredients for miso soup. the EDF very much has its priorities in order.

I played like 1400 hours of EDF 4.1, and about 900 hours of EDF 5 on PS4. 4.1 was great, but 5 takes it to an entirely different level. basically, all aspects of the gameplay are improved. the missions are much more exciting with better scripting. the introduction of humanoid soldier enemies was exactly what the EDF formula needed, and lends itself to some of the fiercest battles in the series. the story is an unforgettable experience that I am incapable of growing tired of. numerous fixes and adjustments were made compared to 4.1 that add up in a tangible way.

this is the best shooter in years. you can get hundreds of hours of play time out of this game. you should try it.

edit: still the best bang for your buck in 2019. get your friends and save the world

edit: obligatory game rewards edit. still the best coop shooter in 2020.

this is not a perfect game by a big company by any means. but it has a ton of heart and has pure fun at its very core without needing to get very complex. there's nothing quite like playing a few missions in EDF with 3 friends backing you up

after 340 hours I can safely say that this game is worth every penny, and that's barely even counting the expansions that add like 50 new missions

EDIT: 1200 hours, still going. maybe I have a problem. maybe this is just a fantastic game. if you have friends, you should be playing this with them

EDIT: EDF 5 soon lads just hang in there

This game provides irrefutable proof that anime is real.
