Brilliant. The game was clearly developed on a pretty tight budget, but the developers didn't try to struggle against it - they built their constraints within and around it, and while the result is positively austere in many ways... it makes all of it work to its advantage.

Word of warning, though: Echo can be intensely frustrating at times. If you feel that getting to you, take a break and return a few hours later with a clear head. And never forget, that this is ultimately a stealth game - the more you fight the bigger difficulty spike you'll create.

It's ****ing DOOM - if you're a 90s kid and the name doesn't psych you up, check if you still have a pulse.

After being disappointed by the weaksauce multiplayer beta of the 2016 remake (review here), I returned back to the original Doom... and more than 20 years after it released, it's still the same bloody GLORIOUS game that gave my younger self nightmares.

The crowned king of violence, a non-stop orgy of mayhem in a freight train full of murder fueled by raw adrenaline - punctuated by PUNCHING! DEMONS! IN! THE! FACE!

PS. Play using a source port. It'll be a substantial improvement unless you're very insistent on a perfect 1:1 replica of the original 90s experience in visuals and controls.
