Might and Magic 6 and 7 were some of my favorite games when they came out. The combination of an intricate skill system and open world gameplay was addictive as hell. Fortunately this new installment in the series captures the same feeling that made those games great. In fact it even improves on many aspects. The first major difference is combat. Instead of being realtime/pausable, the combat is completely turn based. This makes battles much more about tactics then the previous might and magics. The skill system with masters and grandmasters makes a return along with class promotion quests. In fact, this game retains a lot of might and magic staples. Yes there is obelisks. Yes there are relics.

Dungeons are very well done. There are secrets and hidden passages that you must find. You cant just kill all the enemies to finish the dungeons/quests. Dungeons are large and there is even one that has multiple entries and exits that span a large part of the game world. You will find yourself returning to the different dungeons just to see if you missed anything. You will solve puzzles, find clues, and even discover elemental shards. There are about 7 shards in total and each time you find one, you embark on a quest and gain a new blessing. The blessing's allow you to cross water or cut through a forest or take portals.

Might and Magic X can be difficult and even frustrating at times. The magic system is such that you gain new spells when you become an expert, master, or grandmaster. You will find yourself to weak to fight certain creatures until you get these new spells. Speaking of the spell system, there are 12 different classes spanning 4 different races. Each class has its own flavor and can specialize in certain skills. Once your class gets promoted, they even get special abilities. This was a great addition to the traditional Might and Magic class system.

The one downside to this game is that its not quite big enough. You can tell the developers didnt have the time or budget they needed to truly make an epic game. I believe this release was a sort of test to see how well it would do, and if it does well, we can look foward to a epic Might and Magic XI. Although the game world is small, its still a fantastic game.

If you gave this game a negative review, you should feel bad about yourself. You can tell this game was made by an extremely talented developer. The world is huge and exploration is meaningful. Crystal Project acts like a metroidvania with mounts that allow higher or longer jumps and unlock previously inaccessible areas. There are cool items to find with unique abilities all hand placed throughout the world. There are secret bosses with amazing loot all over the place. There is even a pretty well done crafting system that encourages exploration. You will have a blast navigating through the Crystal Project world.

The class and battle system is incredibly detailed. There are many classes to unlock each with numerous abilities and their own skill tree. The battle system allows you to see absolutely everything. You can see what the monsters next attack is and whether that attack is single or multi target. You can also see whether its a magic or strength/dex based attack. This is helpful for using debuffs. And you must use debuffs. Many classes have the ability to lower a monster's attack or magic power and this is essential to your success in Crystal Project.

Overall this is an amazing game and my short review barely touched on its greatness. Just take my word for it. Buy it.

I just made it to Demon's Ruins... have all the other Lord's souls. The combat is great, makes me wish every game had this system.

Sorry, I didn't see your comment on the 14th. For some reason it doesn't tell me when there's a comment and I don't see them until I open my profile. I love Dark Souls, can't get enough of it. I resisted playing because I don't usually like non-driving games that require a controller, but I've gotten used to it.
