The Description
In Dwarf Fortress you play as a group of Dwarven settlers in a newly colonized land. With supplies dwindling, and time ticking, you must break the earth and establish your own mountain home. Go underground and build your city, starting from a mere group of settlers, to a bustling metropolis of industry. Be wary though, threats from above, within, and below will always be on the horizon, and you must be ready, for you will inevitably be unmade.

The Good
+Near endless gameplay. With randomly generated worlds where histories are written, empires rise and fall, and legions form, each world and fort you build will be unique and different, and each playthrough you do will have a story for you to tell.
+Amazing complexity. DF has an amazing system! Making different types of ores, constructions, farming industries, and many, many, many more things, Dwarf Fortress has an amazing machine of cogs that you get to oil and work on.
+Lovely pixel graphics. Lovely pixel graphics for every single tile, creature, and item. To think for years this game literally was just a series of numbers and dos graphics.
+Modability. Dwarf fortress has amazing modability. The games workshop has all kinds of mods. From new races, to quality of life changes. It's truly amazing!
+Lovely sound track. It really helps you get immersed in the fantasy world of the game.
+Rewarding gameplay. Your first fortress, unless you are endlessly savescumming, is going to fall. Each run you learn more and more and more, until you understand the game enough to build a fort where you can sit back in pride as you look at what you have built.

The Bad
-No animations. The game has no real animations. Everything darts and teleports around the screen to simulate movement. Besides water, everything is still images darting around.
-HARD. AS. HELL. This game is not for your typical gamer who simply wants to build a little fort and live a happy life without issue. From starvation, invasion, your own stupidity, or boredom, your fort is doomed to fall and die. This game does not have a learning curve, BUT A LEARNING 500 FOOT DROP! If you expect an easy time, buddy, you are in for a really, really bad time.

The Verdict
Never in my entire life have I played a game such as Dwarf Fortress. This is a micromanagers dream, and heaven. I love everything about this game. I intend to play this game for many, many, many, MANY, years and will never be bored. If you're looking for a game to keep you occupied until your pulse stops, look no further. Play it here!

10/10 MUST HAVE!

Still reading huh? Well let me tell you about my first fortress

THE FIRST

When I began the game, my first fortress was named "Bowclasp". We started out in a nice little temperate forest with a little brook near us. I started out, learning the basics and slowly managing the fort. We got around 40 people, I built a little temple, and all was well. I thought this game seemed easy and fun. That was until a year in, it happened.

Ula Talga, a Wereskink, was outside my fortress. A humanoid werebeast. My small military fought it off, but little did I know that it would leave a dark legacy. One month after the defeat of Ula, 7 of my dwarfs turned into Wereskinks themselves! A brutal massacre happened, leaving gore and blood all across my fortress. I cleaned up the aftermath, then something horrid happened.

A Cyclops came! The colossal beast charged in ready to crush dwarfs into pulp. It's first victim, was a dwarven child playing outside my fortress... Or so I assumed. It swung at the child and missed, only for the child to retaliate and somehow, but the luck of Armok, PUNCH IT SO HARD IN THE HEART IT DIED! I then sat there, in awe, at this god child...

It did not last long. A few months later, an ambush of 7 crossbow wielding goblins arrived. In a short amount of time, the turned all my remaining dwarfs into pin cushions. I then sat there in awe, realizing just what I have played... Dwarf Fortress taught me the meaning... Of fun...

Well that is the first story I had in this game. Now, stop reading, and go make your own stories friend! Remember, losing is fun!
