I don't understand how a game this great exists in current year.

A 15-20 hour linear story, without an over-bloated open world, instead featuring tight action, great pacing, amazing banter, and unlockable cosmetics in lieu of DLC? What year is it?!

I loved every minute of this game, which is largely carried by the banter and dialogue between the main cast and a few interesting side characters. I know that the witty dialogue that is all too common in comic book movies today can get a bit grating, but I feel that it is written and preformed with enough restraint here that it comes off as earnest and real. Our heroes laugh in the face of danger, but never diminish it to the point of a farce.

Even if you tire of (or even hate) modern comic book movies, I'd still recommend you give this story a chance. It's honestly more Star Wars (the original one) than superhero flick.

As for the gameplay, this is definitely the game's weakest link, although it really only suffers at the beginning when you don't have any abilities unlocked. Star Lord's blasters feel a bit like nerf guns and the enemies are a bit too bullet-spongey. Once you unlock most of the abilities and alternate fire modes for the blasters, the combat gets more interesting and a lot faster, although it still could be better.

Fortunately, the game offers custom difficulty settings. I haven't tried messing with them yet, but just looking at them I'd recommend setting the damage you deal and receive to maximum. That might speed things up a bit while still keeping the danger.

Still, I don't need every game to be Dark Souls, sometimes I just want a fun and engaging story that entertains me and even pulls out a few emotions from my cold, dead heart. I whole heartedly recommend Guardians of the Galaxy, unless you hate fun.

A note: I'd recommend getting this game soon (as in, within a year or two), as it is chock-full of (great) licensed music and those tend to expire, putting these games in legal limbo. Remember the Deadpool game?
