Opus magnum!

An excellent puzzle game in the same style as "MacGuffin's Curse" or "Ittle Dew". The visuals are rather simple and pixelated, and the story is minimal (no text at all, just pictures and small animations), but the puzzles themselves are surprisingly diverse and challenging! There are many various worlds, and some puzzles are even supposed to be solved several times in different ways (like there is one way for getting to a key, and another for getting to a gem or a star).

There is some drawback though. As there are so many places to visit and puzzles to solve, the game is supposed to be quite non-linear, with the possibility for you to go to another place while trying to figure out a puzzle or two. The problem is that it is extremely easy to get lost - and quite often it is unclear whether the puzzle is solvable or not (as you may need to find some other tools before you can do it). It would be much better to have more clear indications on the global map, like in "Indiana Jones and his Desktop Adventures": "This area is all solved", "This area has a puzzle you can solve now", or "This area has a puzzle you can't solve yet".

I was a tester on the previous game by Fabrice Breton, which was a pure point-and-click adventure game, but I was hesitant to buy this one because of the "Beat 'em up" tag.

Well, I can tell that I was totally wrong in my suspicions: "BROK the InvestiGator" is a great adventure game, indeed! The "action" part is actually quite fun and not difficult at all, so I ended up not skipping any of the battles. The game is even much better than "Demetrios": the setting is quite unique, the story is interesting, and the characters are appealing.

My biggest complaint is about the gameplay design in relation to the endings: I completed the game in 8 hours while trying to do my best at the exams - and, well, I got a less favorable ending with the whole chapter 6 gone missing! That does not make much sense. The game welcomes you to replay a solid part of it - but it is a story-based adventure game, after all, so it is not so interesting to replay it again and again trying to reach other of the eleven endings.... Not the best decision, I'd say.

Sitll, it is a very nice game that could well be recommended!

What a great game!!

It is rarely that you can see a point-and-click adventure game today that is perfect and impeccable in almost any aspect. The story is original and captivating; the graphics is both quasi-pixelated and nice looking, in full HD; the puzzles are quite hard and surprisingly original (like the brilliant interrelation between the dreams and the reality); the humour is soft and decent; the voiceovers are simply great.

The only thing I did not like was the ending - I mean not the final cut-scene, but the whole result of the mystery we were investigating. The culprit is extremely unprobable, as if that ending was just made-up as the game had to be released... Well, not much of a complain though - that's the kind of illogical ending we had in both "Monkey Island 2" and "Monkey Island 3" :)

And the rest of it is just excellent, anyway. Hope to see more games by Tom Hardwidge!

A very small adventure game of classic point & click type. It is nice to see the graphics being drawn, not 3D. Besides, the story is interesring and puzzles are very logical - but as a result you can complete it in about an hour!
Unfortunately, I also had one critical bug (and had to restart) - and the achievements did not work for me at all.
Still, I would definitely recommend it to all fans of classic adventure games - but it would be better to buy this game at a sale.

Surprisingly - one of the best adventure games of the 21st century in the "Indy" category.

Cateia mostly makes and publishes rather "hidden object" casual games, but here we have a classical point-and-click adventure game. In fact, it was created originally by Naphtalite Productions and personally by Petar Ivanček - I remember playing the demo version back in 2006. But he did not finish it, so it was Cateia who has completed and published the game (and still supports and updates it, wow!).

Anyway, it is seldom that practically everything is excellent in a game made by such a small team. The graphics are great (they do resemble the classics like "The Curse of Monkey Island", but it is definitely not a clone we see here!), the settings are unique (you can name quite a few of "Steampunk" adventure games - and this one has a Slavic / Eastern European vibe in it that I have never seen anywhere else!), the puzzles are good enough to be neither too easy nor too hard - and not repetitive or monotonous either (we are talking about adventure game puzzles of course, like Inventory- and dialogue-based, not about pure Myst-like puzzles)!

The only possible complain I have is that the Croatian game does not support a Croatian language... Not that I speak Croatian, but, well, it would be better to see and hear characters speak their native language instead of English or German. Those two voiceovers were added recently - the German one seems to be much better. Although I still prefer to play it in the text-only way with manually dissmissing all lines after I read them - luckily there is such an option.

In any case, "Kaptain Brawe" is a must for any classic adventure game fan!

Oh, I remember this game! I tried to back it on two Kickstarter campaigns in 2014-2015 that were unfortunately unsuccessful. The authors promised to work on the game anyway in their spare time, but there were no news from them for years.
So I was very surprised for the game to appear 10 years later - bought it at the first sale.

Sadly, my first impression was a dissapointement. The game was totally unfinished at that point!
Now, the good thing is that the developer keeps it updating, so after several months I have finally completed the game - and even changed my review from negative to positive!

Don't get me wrong - there are still bugs and some other things like missing voiceovers, but nothing too critical now. And it is even more charming to have Nigel the skeleton narrator to explain things behind the scene in order to reimburse the missing animations :)

The story is surprisingly fresh and interesting (to say nothing of the gloomy atmosphere, which is quite unique), even if there are just a handful of locations and characters. The puzzles are somewhat not very intuitive in the beginning, but everything becomes much easier later. And rather straightworward - I think I spent more times in the Prologue chapter than in Acts 1, 2 and 3 put together.

Even being a devoted "Monkey Island" fan for 30 years, I was hesitant to buy "Return to Monkey Island" (mostly because of the non-traditional art style) - and bought it a whole year after the release.

Well, I was not dissapointed! Luckily the art is quite bearable - you get accustomed to it soon, and everything in fact looks fine, as if in good old 2D (as opposed to modern total 3D in, say, "Escape from Monkey Island").

Still, it is in no way the best game in the series - probably the third or the fourth in rank for my taste, far below "Curse" and "Secret" and on par with "Tales", but still much better than "Revenge" or "Escape".

The atmosphere is OK - on the one hand, we do re-visit two of the most memorable locations, Melee Island and the eponymous Monkey Island. On the other hand, those are rather abridged versions of Melee and Monkey Islands - sightseeing is limited, no monkeys, no natives etc. Unfortunately there is less humor here than in the first three games either.

The puzzles are mostly fine, too. Even if some of them are rather secondary: for example, the game first tries to laugh at "the three puzzles" scheme being now the standard of adventure games - and then it gives use those "three puzzles" itself, as a way to win a crown!

The story was even less convincing for me. A nordic queen on a frozen island in a Monkey Island game (supposedly still set in the Carribean) felt definitely out of place! Old characters are nice to meet, but they often repeat themselves, and new characters are rather plain boring (like the aforementioned queen or the new 'Very Imrporant Pirates').

Still, it is definitely a Monkey Island game. So fans of the series (and of the adventure games in general) do not need any recommendations. But the new players should better take a look at "The Secret of Monkey Island" and "The Curse of Monkey Island".

A great adventure game, just the kind of one would expect from collaboration of Cloak and Dagger Games and Wadjet Eye!

The story is original and exciting, the puzzles are well fit and logical, the voiceovers are elaborate and professional.
It only lasts for six to seven hours, but those hours would be a pure joy for any classical adventure game lovers.
I definitely loved the ending as well - it is the only logical ending that could come out of the story exposed, even if some reviewers did find it rather unusual and not for their taste.

The only drawback for me is the heroine - she is too émancipée for the quasi-Victorian good old England we see here! I would prefer that part of the plot to be more realistic - especially in cotrast with the, well, fantasy-based side of the game reality.

Excellent game of "Choose your own adventure" type! Bigger, better and funnier than the first one.
It took me about three hours to get to one of the endings, with replaying most (if not all) of the scense to try some other solutions, but - I only have 6 achievements out of 22! So the number of possibilities here is indeed great :)
