NORCO
Gulf of intrigue

Note: This game was played to completion on Microsoft PC Game Pass.

NORCO isn't just a game; it's an experience that defies convention and should leave a profound impact on players willing to immerse themselves in its dark and surreal world. This narrative-driven adventure, developed by Geography of Robots, stands as a testament to the potential of video games as a storytelling medium, pushing boundaries and blurring the lines between reality and fiction.

From the moment you step foot into the sun-soaked, yet hauntingly eerie landscapes of NORCO, you're entranced by its atmosphere. The game masterfully captures the essence of the American Gulf Coast, where oil refineries and marshlands create a unique backdrop for the unfolding mystery. The visual artistry, blending pixel art with photorealistic imagery, lends the game an uncanny and dreamlike quality that keeps you engaged and curious throughout.

The story of NORCO is its ace in the oil (so to speak), weaving together a complex tapestry of personal struggles, corporate greed, and the supernatural. As you navigate the life of a young woman seeking answers about her missing mother, you're drawn into a web of conspiracies that challenge your perception of reality. The writing is masterful, rich with nuance and symbolism, as NORCO it expertly explores themes of environmental degradation, memory, and the human psyche.

The characters you encounter in NORCO are multifaceted and deeply human, each contributing to the game's immersive and thought-provoking narrative. The voice acting is exceptional, capturing the emotions and complexities of the characters, and adding an extra layer of authenticity to their interactions.

NORCO's gameplay is both innovative and intuitive. As you explore the world, you'll engage in conversations that influence the course of the story, making meaningful choices that affect the outcome. The puzzles, while challenging, are rewarding and seamlessly integrated into the narrative. The game doesn't hold your hand, allowing you to discover solutions and connections on your own, enhancing the feeling of agency and accomplishment.

The musical score of NORCO is a mesmerising blend of ambient sounds and haunting melodies. It complements the game's atmosphere perfectly, enhancing the tension and immersion as you delve deeper into the mystery.

While NORCO is a triumph on almost all fronts, it's not without a few minor flaws. Some players might find the pacing a bit slow at times, and the surreal narrative could be disorienting for those seeking a more straightforward experience. However, these elements contribute to the game's uniqueness and are part of what makes NORCO such a memorable journey.

In conclusion, NORCO is a true gem in the world of indie gaming, pushing the boundaries of storytelling and gameplay. Its captivating narrative, atmospheric visuals, and innovative mechanics create an unforgettable experience that lingers in your mind long after you've put down the controller. If you're a fan of thought-provoking narratives and are ready to embark on a surreal journey, NORCO is an absolute must-play that showcases the artistic potential of video games.

Murder by Numbers
Scouts Honor

Murder by Numbers presents an intriguing concept by blending visual novel storytelling with nonograms, also known as picross puzzles. Set in the 1990's, the game offers players a chance to solve crimes and uncover mysteries through a combination of dialogue-driven narrative and grid-based puzzle solving. While the idea is promising, the execution leaves much to be desired, resulting in a somewhat underwhelming experience.

The game's strongest point lies in its unique premise, as players assume the role of Honor Mizrahi, a TV actress turned amateur detective who partners with a sassy robot named SCOUT to solve a series of murders. The retro aesthetic and witty dialogue capture the essence of the 90's, providing a nostalgic backdrop for the investigation.

Unfortunately, Murder by Numbers stumbles when it comes to its puzzle mechanics. The picross puzzles themselves are a mixed bag – some are genuinely engaging and satisfying to complete, while others feel tedious and overly simplistic. Others feel almost impossible to solve without the aid of some guide or YouTube video. The difficulty curve lacks consistency and is all over the place, often leading to frustration as players oscillate between breezing through puzzles and getting stuck on obscure logic leaps.

The narrative aspect of the game, although intriguing at first, struggles to maintain its momentum. The murder cases tend to follow a formulaic pattern, making the overarching story feel predictable. The character development also falls flat, with Honor and SCOUT's interactions occasionally veering into clichéd territory.

Visually, Murder by Numbers sports a colourful and vibrant art style that pays homage to the era it draws inspiration from. The character designs are charming, and the game does an admirable job of capturing the essence of the 90's with its fashion choices and environments.

The game's soundtrack complements the retro vibe effectively, though it doesn't stand out as particularly memorable. Voice acting is serviceable, but it lacks the depth needed to truly bring the characters to life.

In conclusion, Murder by Numbers presents a creative blend of genres that ultimately falls short of its potential. While the concept of combining visual novel storytelling with picross puzzles is intriguing, the uneven puzzle difficulty, predictable narrative, and disappointing character development prevent the game from reaching greater heights. It's a decent choice for players seeking a casual and nostalgic experience, but those looking for a more polished and engaging detective game might be left wanting more.

One word or phrase to sum up the experience
Uneven puzzle mechanics with difficulty veering all over the place.

Legendary
Myth-Taken Identity

Introduction:
Legendary, developed by Spark Studios, promised to deliver a unique and exhilarating gaming experience upon release that blended elements of action, adventure, and fantasy. With these high expectations set, players embarked on a journey to a world filled with mythical creatures, epic battles, and a sprawling narrative. Unfortunately, despite its ambitious aspirations for the time, Legendary fell short of its potential, resulting in a lacklustre gaming experience that was widely panned at the time by critics and users alike.

Graphics and Visuals:
One of the most disappointing aspects of Legendary is its subpar graphics and visuals. While the game attempted to create an immersive world with breathtaking landscapes and towering monsters, the execution falls flat. The textures, even for the time, appear outdated and there is a distinct lack of detail to the levels which many found incredibly disappointing. Character models suffer from awkward animations and ridiculous facial expressions, failing to evoke a sense of realism. The overall visual experience is underwhelming to say the least and fails to immerse players fully into the fantastical world Spark studios is trying to create.

Gameplay Mechanics:
The gameplay mechanics in Legendary have their moments but suffer from inconsistency and lack of polish. The core concept of battling mythical creatures and utilising various weapons is intriguing, but the execution is flawed. The combat system feels clunky and imprecise, making it difficult to engage in satisfying battles. Additionally, the level design lacks creativity and often feels repetitive, as players move from one uninspired environment to another. The incorporation of puzzles and platforming elements attempts to add depth, but they often feel tacked-on and interrupt the flow of the game.

Storyline and Narrative
Legendary's narrative had the potential to be its standout feature, with the promise of exploring ancient myths and uncovering hidden truths. However, the story fails to deliver on any of its potential, with a barebones plot that fails to engage players on almost every level. The characters lack depth and development, making it challenging to connect with their motivations. The pacing also feels uneven, with moments of excitement interspersed with long periods of dull exposition. The potential for an epic adventure is overshadowed by a disjointed and uninspired storyline.

Technical Performance:
Technical issues further hamper the overall experience of Legendary. Players frequently encounter glitches, ranging from minor visual bugs to game-breaking crashes. These technical hiccups disrupt the immersion and can lead to frustration..

Replay Value and Longevity:
Legendary struggles to provide compelling reasons for players to return to the game once the initial playthrough is complete. The lack of meaningful choices, branching storylines, or diverse gameplay options limits the replay value. Additionally, the absence of a robust multiplayer component or engaging side activities diminishes the game's longevity.

Conclusion:
In the end, Legendary falls short of its ambitious aspirations, resulting in a sub-par gaming experience. While the game showcases moments of potential and creativity, it is marred by technical issues, outdated visuals, and an uninspired narrative. The potential for a captivating adventure in a fantastical world is present, but it remains locked away unrealised due to the game's numerous shortcomings. Despite its attempts to carve a niche in the action-adventure genre, Legendary struggles to stand out among its peers resulting in a disappointing experience that is easily forgotten.

One word or phrase to sum up the experience
Wasted potential.

Five Dates
Emotional buffering

Five Dates presents a unique concept that merges interactive storytelling with the world of modern dating apps, allowing players to navigate the complexities of romantic relationships from the comfort of their screens. While the game's innovative approach is commendable, it falls short of delivering a truly captivating experience, resulting in a middling affair.

Pros:

Fresh Concept: The game's premise of virtually dating five different characters through video calls is a refreshing take on interactive storytelling. It introduces an element of choice and consequence that adds depth to the narrative.

Timely Themes: Five Dates explores timely themes of modern dating, long-distance relationships, and the challenges of forging connections in a digital age. This relevance adds a layer of relatability to the characters and their struggles.

Character Depth: Each character has their own distinct personality and backstory, providing a sense of authenticity to their interactions. This variety ensures that no two playthroughs are exactly the same.

Cons:

Limited Gameplay: While the concept is intriguing, the gameplay mechanics remain relatively limited, mostly consisting of dialogue choices and occasional decision points. This simplicity can lead to a lack of engagement, especially for those seeking more interactive gameplay.

Shallow Relationships: Despite the efforts to establish meaningful connections, the virtual dating format inherently limits the depth of the relationships that players can build with the characters. The emotional impact can feel somewhat hollow as a result.

Uneven Storytelling: The quality of writing and character development varies between the different storylines. Some characters receive more attention and development than others, leading to an uneven storytelling experience.

Technical Limitations: The video call format, while innovative, occasionally suffers from technical glitches that can disrupt the immersion. Audio and video inconsistencies can break the flow of the conversations.

Conclusion:

Five Dates presents an innovative concept that attempts to merge interactive storytelling with the world of virtual dating. While the game's fresh approach and timely themes are commendable, it struggles to maintain a consistently engaging experience. Limited gameplay mechanics, shallow relationships, uneven storytelling, and occasional technical hiccups hinder its potential. While the game's exploration of modern dating dynamics might resonate with some players, its execution results in a lukewarm rating of 6/10. Those intrigued by the premise might find some enjoyment, but those seeking a more immersive and emotionally resonant experience may come away feeling somewhat unsatisfied.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Illusive Age
Drag-on Quest

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Illusive Age sets out to capture the essence of classic JRPGs with its traditional gameplay mechanics and charming world. However, while it boasts some impressive aspects, the game ultimately felt like more of a chore to play than a great gaming experience.

Pros:

Nostalgic Charm: The game pays homage to the nostalgic appeal of classic JRPGs, featuring a colourful world, whimsical characters, and a timeless art style, that while simple in nature, is still pleasing to the eye.

Vast World: Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Illusive Age offers a sprawling world to explore, complete with various towns, dungeons, and landscapes that give players a sense of adventure and discovery.

Turn-Based Combat: The traditional turn-based combat system provides a sense of familiarity for fans of the genre, allowing strategic gameplay and character customisation through skill trees.

Cons:

Predictable Storyline: The narrative fails to break away from clichés often associated with the JRPG genre. While it attempts to introduce twists, the overall plot lacks innovation and feels predictable and dare I say, somewhat boring. The mute protagonist feels jarring and fails to get players to identify with his character or plight.

Pacing Issues: The game suffers from uneven pacing, with stretches of slow progression that may test players' patience. It certainly tested mine. The pacing issues can lead to moments of disengagement as I found it a continuous struggle to get on with the game.

Repetitive Quests: Side quests often involve fetch quests or uninspired objectives, which breeds a sense of monotony and diminishing the excitement of exploring the vast world.

Sparse Voice Acting: While certain cutscenes feature voice acting, much of the dialogue remains text-based.

Outdated Mechanics: While the turn-based combat system has its merits, it feels outdated to players like myself who are accustomed to more dynamic and innovative battle systems found in modern RPGs. In my time spent with it (I played the game on Microsoft Game Pass for PC for those wondering about my limited Steam hours), I found little strategy was required to get through battles and the constant battle aggro you draw from enemies that thrusts you into continuous encounters grew tiresome as I found I couldn't take two steps in this world without having to fight something, with enemy groups repeating themselves to nauseous effect.

Conclusion:

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Illusive Age offers a nostalgic journey into the world of classic JRPGs, embracing a traditional aesthetic and gameplay mechanics. While it manages to capture some of the charm and magic of the genre, I generally found that it struggles to break free from its own conventions. Predictable storytelling, pacing issues, and repetitive quests hinder the potential for a truly memorable experience. While the game may appeal to die-hard fans of the series or those seeking a throwback to traditional RPGs, its shortcomings may leave certain players tepid to the adventure as it did me.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes
Dust to dust

House of Ashes, the latest instalment in the popular series of horror games The Dark Pictures Anthology from Supermassive Games, attempts to immerse players into a harrowing tale of survival set amidst the ruins of an ancient civilisation. While the game showcases moments of tension and intrigue, it ultimately falls short of its potential, leaving players with a bit of a mixed bag.

Pros:

Visually Striking Environments: The game excels in creating a chilling atmosphere with its detailed and eerie environments. The dimly lit tunnels and sprawling catacombs effectively set the stage for a suspenseful experience.

Character Dynamics: The interactions between the characters add depth to the narrative. The exploration of relationships and conflicts under duress is a highlight of the game, adding a layer of emotional engagement.

Narrative Ambitions: House of Ashes attempts to weave together ancient myths and modern military conflict, presenting a unique blend of horror and historical fiction. The premise is intriguing and has the potential to captivate players.

Cons:

Predictable Plot: Despite its promising setup, the plot often succumbs to genre clichés, leaving players with a sense of predictability. The narrative fails to fully capitalise on its potential twists and turns, ultimately diluting the impact of its darker revelations.

Stilted Dialogue and Voice Acting: While the character dynamics are a strength, the dialogue and voice acting occasionally feel stilted and lack the emotional depth required to fully immerse players in the story.

Uneven Pacing: The pacing of House of Ashes can be uneven, with periods of intense action followed by prolonged lulls that disrupt the flow of the game. This imbalance leads to disjointed gameplay experience.

Limited Gameplay Innovation: The gameplay mechanics largely stick to tried-and-true formulas, missing an opportunity to introduce innovative mechanics that could elevate the overall experience.

Conclusion:

House of Ashes is a game with clear potential, but it struggles to fully realise it. While the environments are haunting and the character dynamics intriguing, the predictable plot, uneven pacing, and lack of gameplay innovation prevent it from reaching the heights of its predecessors. With a few notable strengths and several missed opportunities, the game earns a lukewarm rating from me. Fans of the series may still find elements to enjoy, but those seeking a truly exceptional horror experience might come away feeling somewhat disappointed.

Buddy Simulator 1984
A Byte of BFF

Introduction:
Buddy Simulator 1984, a unique indie game that combines retro aesthetics with AI interaction, offers players an intriguing premise that taps into nostalgia while exploring the boundaries of virtual companionship. While the game succeeds in creating an unsettling atmosphere as Buddy, your AI companion, becomes obsessively more unhinged as the game progresses , it falls short in terms of gameplay depth and pacing.

Graphics and Atmosphere:
Buddy Simulator 1984 nails the retro aesthetic, transporting players back to the 8-bit era with pixelated graphics and chiptune music. The deliberate choice to mimic old-school visuals places it in the year that it is set. The game's changing environments and surreal moments, that eventually give way to horrifying, contribute to an immersive atmosphere, creating an intriguing sense of mystery, curiosity and horror.

Gameplay and Interaction:
The core concept of interacting with an AI companion is novel and engaging, offering players a chance to forge a unique bond. Conversations with Buddy, the AI, start out heartwarming and thought-provoking, evoking a sense of attachment but they quickly become more and more sinister as Buddy's obsessiveness starts to take hold. However, the gameplay mechanics are limited, primarily revolving around dialogue choices and mini-games that lack complexity. This results in a lack of variety and depth, leading to moments of monotony during extended play sessions.

Narrative and Storytelling:
Buddy Simulator 1984 presents an intriguing narrative that gradually grows more unhinged as players interact with Buddy and explore the game world. The obsessive undertones and unsettling hints of Buddy's slow unravelling add layers of intrigue. However, the pacing can be uneven, with moments of engaging storytelling occasionally interrupted by periods of aimless exploration or repetitive tasks.

Emotional Engagement:
Where Buddy Simulator 1984 shines brightest is in its ability to evoke emotions and create a genuine sense of companionship between the player and the AI and then watch that companionship take a frightening turn. The AI's evolving personality gives way from heartwarming and, at times, poignant to genuinely unsettling and horrifying as the game progresses.

Technical Performance:
The game generally performs well, with no major technical issues encountered during gameplay. However, the implementation of some game mechanics, particularly in the mini-games, can feel clunky and imprecise, impacting the overall gameplay experience.

Replay Value:
Buddy Simulator 1984 offers limited replay value due to its linear structure and lack of diverse gameplay mechanics. While different dialogue choices can lead to slight variations in interactions, the core experience remains largely unchanged upon subsequent playthroughs.

Conclusion:
Buddy Simulator 1984 offers an intriguing horror experience that invites players to form a virtual bond with an AI companion and then watch it go to pots. Its retro aesthetics, emotional engagement, and moments of heartfelt connection interspersed with unsettling menace set it apart from traditional gaming experiences. However, the limited gameplay mechanics and occasional pacing issues prevent it from fully realising its potential. Despite its shortcomings, Buddy Simulator 1984 serves as an intriguing exploration of AI interaction gone wrong making it a noteworthy addition to the indie gaming landscape.

One word or phrase to sum up the experience
Pixel pals with an unhealthy dash of obsession.

Borderlands 3
Misfire in the wasteland

Introduction:
Borderlands 3, the much-anticipated sequel to the beloved looter-shooter series, falls disappointingly short of its predecessors. While retaining the franchise's signature cel-shaded art style and (this time highly annoying) irreverent humour, the game struggles to live up to its legacy due to a combination of technical issues, uninspired design choices, and a lacklustre storyline.

Graphics and Visuals:
Borderlands 3 maintains its distinct visual identity with the cel-shaded art style that fans have come to expect. However, the visuals feel dated and fail to showcase any significant improvements over previous entries. Character animations often appear stiff and lack the fluidity needed to immerse players in the chaotic world. Environments suffer from repetitiveness, with recycled assets and uninspired level design leading to a lack of visual variety that quickly dampens the will to want to continue exploring this wasteland.

Gameplay and Mechanics:
While the core looter-shooter gameplay loop remains intact, Borderlands 3 fails to innovate or refine the mechanics that made its predecessors enjoyable. Gunplay lacks the satisfying punch of past titles, feeling clunky and imprecise. The introduction of alternate fire modes adds little depth, often feeling gimmicky rather than impactful. The AI of both enemies and allies is lacklustre, leading to frustrating encounters and a lack of engaging tactical gameplay.

Story and Narrative:
Borderlands games have never been lauded for their intricate narratives, but Borderlands 3's story takes a significant step backward. The humour often falls flat, with forced jokes and cringe-worthy dialogue overshadowing any potential charm. The main villain, the Calypso Twins, lack the charisma and depth of previous antagonists and are highly annoying, making it difficult to invest in the central conflict. The attempts at emotional moments feel contrived and unearned, failing to evoke any genuine connection with the characters.

Character Development:
Character progression in Borderlands 3 feels hollow and lacks a sense of meaningful growth. Skill trees offer little in the way of strategic choices, with many skills feeling insignificant or inconsequential. The lack of distinct character abilities for each Vault Hunter stifles variety, leading to a homogenised experience regardless of the chosen character. Customisation options are limited and fail to capture the spirit of creativity seen in earlier titles.

Technical Performance:
One of the most glaring issues with Borderlands 3 is its technical performance. The game is plagued by frequent bugs, crashes, and optimisation problems. Frame rate drops, texture pop-ins, and connectivity issues hinder the overall experience. The inconsistent technical performance disrupts gameplay and pulls players out of the immersion, contributing to an overall sense of frustration.

Conclusion:
Borderlands 3 is a disappointing entry in the series, failing to capture the magic that made its predecessors beloved by fans. Despite its recognisable art style and attempts at humour which falls drastically off the mark, the game stumbles with lacklustre gameplay mechanics, an uninspired story, and a host of technical issues. For a franchise that once thrived on its unique blend of humour, action, and loot-driven gameplay, Borderlands 3 falls far short of expectations. It serves as a cautionary tale of how a lack of innovation and attention to detail can undermine even the most established gaming franchises.

One word or phrase to sum up the experience
Irritating beyond belief

Resident Evil: Village
Village People - this time it's not just disco

Resident Evil: Village, the latest instalment in the iconic survival horror franchise from Capcom, continues to push the boundaries of the genre with its innovative first person camera view. Set in a chilling, Gothic European village, the game takes players on a roller-coaster ride of thrills, intrigue, and heart-pounding action while also delivering the franchise one of its most iconic, if not iconic villains, Countess Alcina Dimitrescu. From the moment she appeared in an early trailer for Resident Evil: Village, Lady Dimitrescu captured the attention of the internet: her towering, sultry frame; her sickly-sweet smile; her massive hat; her proper yet authoritative tone.

Viewers were instantly obsessed, labelling her "tall vampire lady" and demanding to know everything about her, which prompted Capcom to reveal her exact height — 9'6" including her hat and heels — months before Resident Evil: Village launched in May of 2021. Lady Dimitrescu, and her murderous three daughters preside over Castle Dimitrescu which towers over the village protagonist Ethan Winters (the lead from Resident Evil 7) finds himself in at the start of the game. Countess Alcina Dimitrescu is not the only villain Ethan Winters will need to outsmart in this sequel, but she definitely is the most memorable. From the get go Resident Evil: Village manages to deliver an intense and memorable experience that should keep fans of the series on the edge of their seats.

Graphics and Atmosphere:
One of the standout features of Resident Evil: Village is its stunning visual presentation. The RE Engine once again proves its prowess, delivering detailed character models, breathtaking environments, and impressive lighting effects. The titular village itself is a masterclass in environmental design, seamlessly blending decrepit architecture with eerie ambience. The transition from the village to more fantastical locales is seamless and adds to the game's sense of mystery and foreboding.

Gameplay and Mechanics:
Resident Evil: Village continues the franchise's shift towards a more action-oriented approach, akin to Resident Evil 4. The gameplay strikes a balance between tense survival horror and intense combat sequences. Ethan Winters, the protagonist, is more agile this time around, allowing for smoother movement and dynamic evasive actions. The inventory management system returns, adding an extra layer of challenge as players must strategise on the fly.

The weapon variety is satisfying, with each firearm feeling impactful and unique. However, the game occasionally suffers from pacing issues, with certain segments feeling too action-heavy, diminishing the sense of vulnerability that defines the series. The addition of crafting and merchant mechanics adds depth, but the inclusion of some survival elements may alienate purist fans of the franchise.

Story and Narrative:
Resident Evil: Village boasts an intriguing narrative that combines supernatural horror with Resident Evil's signature bio-terrorism plotlines. The enigmatic Lady Dimitrescu and her vampiric daughters steal the show with their eerie charm, but some secondary characters lack development. The overarching story sometimes struggles to maintain a cohesive tone, veering between chilling horror and campy action. While the central mystery is compelling, some plot twists may leave players scratching their heads.

Horror and Atmosphere:
Resident Evil: Village excels at creating an unsettling atmosphere, with its haunting sound design, meticulously crafted environments, and relentless tension. The first-person perspective heightens immersion, making encounters with grotesque enemies genuinely terrifying. The game's psychological horror elements, especially in the dollhouse segment, are spine-chilling and showcase the developers' mastery at crafting scares. However, some areas lose their fright factor due to predictable jump scares and reliance on shock value.

Technical Performance:
Resident Evil: Village runs smoothly on current-gen hardware, maintaining a consistent frame rate even during intense action sequences. However, I did experience severe frame drops when fighting one of Lady Dimitrescu daughters who deploys swarms of insects during the fight with her. This swarm lowered my framerate in to single digits which was jarring. Load times, for the most part, are minimal, and the game's visuals remain impressive throughout. Some players may also experience minor glitches or texture pop-in (as I did), though these issues are infrequent and don't significantly impact the overall experience.

Conclusion:
Resident Evil: Village is a worthy addition to the franchise, offering a visually stunning and atmospheric journey through horror. While the game occasionally strays from its survival horror roots and stumbles in its narrative execution, it still manages to deliver an intense and memorable experience that will leave players eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the Resident Evil saga. With its exceptional graphics, spine-tingling moments, and a gripping sense of dread, Resident Evil: Village solidifies itself as a must-play title for both series veterans and newcomers alike.

One word or phrase to sum up the experience
Tall vampire lady

Performance/Bug related incidents
For the most part, Resident Evil: Village ran without much hiccups, but I did experience severe framerate dips during certain encounters with the swarm of insects one of the enemies deploys during battle. I also occasionally experienced texture pop-in.

Phasmophobia
Spirited away

Phasmophobia, developed by Kinetic Games, offers a unique take on cooperative horror gaming, inviting players to delve into the realm of paranormal investigation. With its mix of suspenseful exploration and team-based tactics, the game has garnered a dedicated following. However, while it has its moments of intense fright, there are certain aspects that leave room for improvement. Lots of improvement.

Pros:

Atmospheric Tension: Phasmophobia does excel in creating an unsettling atmosphere that keeps players on edge. The use of audio cues, lighting, and environmental design contributes to a genuinely chilling experience.

Teamwork Emphasis: The game encourages cooperation and communication among players. Coordinating with teammates to identify and gather evidence about the supernatural entities lurking in haunted locations adds an element of camaraderie and strategy.

Unique Concept: The concept of being a paranormal investigator is fresh and intriguing. The array of tools at your disposal, such as EMF readers, spirit boxes, and cameras, adds depth to the gameplay and offers different avenues for interaction.

Cons:

Technical Glitches: Despite its compelling premise, Phasmophobia has been plagued by technical issues and bugs. From graphical glitches to occasional crashes, these setbacks can significantly disrupt gameplay and immersion.

Limited Content Variety: My current biggest bugbear with the title is that while the initial excitement of investigating haunted locations is palpable, the lack of diverse scenarios and locations quickly leads to repetitive experiences. I just couldn't muster enough energy to do another location repeat this time with a different haunting entity. After a while even the ghosts become repetitive. A broader range of haunted settings and entities\spirits\ghosts would go a LONG way in enhancing the game's longevity. While I understand the game is still in "early access", hopefully it can deliver on this premise in the future because as it stands now enjoyment factor is severely limited by it.

Learning Curve: The game's learning curve can be steep, especially for newcomers. Figuring out the various tools and mechanics can be overwhelming, and the lack of comprehensive in-game tutorials can hinder the overall experience.

Final Verdict:

Phasmophobia offers a commendable attempt at delivering an immersive cooperative horror experience. Its ability to evoke fear and tension is undeniable, but I can't say my time with the game grabbed me. Marred by technical hiccups and a lack of content definitely holds the game back even for a game in "early access". With further development, including bug fixes and expanded gameplay options, Phasmophobia has the potential to rise above its current limitations and offer a more well-rounded and engaging adventure for both seasoned paranormal investigators and newcomers alike but for now it's a definite "Wait until the game is completed" purchase.

One word or phrase to sum up the experience
Limited fright fun

Performance/Bug related incidents
Lots of graphical glitches and the occasional game crash. This is to be expected when it comes to "early access" games so temper your expectations
