INFRA, while not without a few flaws, is one of the most unique and well-made games I have played in a while and probably in my Top 10 of all time, a list that's very hard to get into.

At it's core, INFRA is a walking simulator with occasional puzzling. As structural analyst Mark, you're tasked with exploring a structurally disfunctional dam and the tunnels under the city; though things aren't as simple as they seem. Armed with a flashlight and a camera, your task is the same throughout the 20-25+ hours this game spans: take pictures of structural problems and important documents, repair broken systems and find your way through the city.

INFRA is delightfully ordinary in it's execution. The atmosphere is amazing as you walk through abandoned office buildings, tunnels, factories and mines, with an excellent sound design accompanying your every step. This isn't a horror game, though the atmosphere is almost oppressive and claustrophobic at times - this is simply you, ordinary Mark, doing your job. And let me tell you, Mark needs a pay raise.

The city is designed very well and while the game is mostly linear, every area is true to form and how it would be in reality. While you do your tasks, Mark comments on many things and I *love* his voice acting because, like the game, it's relaxed, ordinary but determined. It annoyed me at first, but now it almost gives me chills. INFRA also has many Easter eggs and secrets to find and I missed a ton. The overarching story also fits and is interesting.

The game has a few flaws however. It is very long and can get a bit repetitive. Some areas feel a bit like filler, like the many tunnels, which strengthens the repetition. Some of these could probably be taken out without compromising the gameplay, but personally, I am glad they added more time to this excellent game. Some of the puzzles are also a bit difficult to figure out due to lack of clear instructions and the constant battery search for camera and (especially) flashlight can be annoying - especially while you try to solve a puzzle or find the exit in a dark environment while your batteries run down. And yet again, it somehow adds to the atmosphere.

Overall, though, INFRA is something very special. Excellent environmental design that merges ordinary everyday areas with structural negligence meets an amazing atmosphere and outstanding sound design with areas naturally flowing into each other. It's fantastic.

I will miss this game, but I missed so many secrets that a second playthrough may be in order. Anyway - at the end of the day, you're just Mark, and you got a job to do - so get out and do it!

EDIT: Finally started my second playthrough years later and I am finding things I completely missed the first time around. Still such a fantastic game and I look forward to replaying it for years to come. Also something I missed the first time around since I was not playing with headphones: the absolutely fantastic soundtrack. What a fantastic experience this game is.

Hey! Just saw your VtM: Bloodhunt review and had to comment when you mentioned Nosgoth. I remember the devs giving me a free copy and absolutely loved it. It really made me sad when it got shut down so soon and I agree this is the only game that has any resemblance. Happy gaming my friend!
