GOD I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ LOVE IT! Has some Outer Wilds and Majoras Mask (expecially the quest chain around Kafei's Marriage) vibes. The less you know about it going in the better.

Early Access Review
yeah I did not like it, it does not click. You go to a level, kill enemies to collect souls, head home to level up, go back to collect souls etc. but there is no padding to make it worthwhile to me, no real story, the first level is just a barren island full of enemies. also its not a game where you can master a fighting system like in a souls-like with parries, blocks, windows to attack. you just point and shoot a gun and try to keep your distance.

Like somebody else wrote 'Pretty much "A Short Hike" in 3D, with elements from Zelda BOTW.' But although I loved A short hike this did not click with me. Navigation was too cumbersome. I don't know if A Short Hike had the advantage of being more vertical than lil gator game and flying was more prominent as means of movement but I was constantly lost in a lil gator game to the point that it annoyed me. Also the gameplay loop felt so shallow. Looking back all I did was talk to people and break stuff, thats just not enough to keep me entertained for that long.

You know how people trash remasters or ports in reviews by giving them a negative review because the original was great but they remastered it poorly? Turok 3 is the opposite. Its a great remaster but the core game is bad.

I actually never played it on my N64, only the first two. So since I loved those ones I was pumped to hear that nightdive is going to remaster the third one. But Turok 3 feels like a low budget title. Its very short; it took me 4 hours, it looks bad and it feels bad. While Turok 2 levels were a bit too labyrinthian to my taste they oozed atmosphere. The levels in this game are completely bland and dare I say feel lazy or amateurish?
Textures and architecture is reused far too often - in a 4 hour game mind you. It also feels very off. The hallways and rooms are far too big so that it really feels like they inflated the size of the levels just to increase playtime. There are also far too many backtrack passages were you enter areas and hallways to press a button which opens a door in the hallway before. While this is standard game procedure it just feels very obvious in this game.

So unless you are interested in this title out of sheer gamer historian curiosity don't bother.

Great JRPG, leans more on the narrative side, battle system is pretty easy and not very strategical, so keep this in mind if you care for that. But phantastic if you want to deep dive into an interesting world for some hours.

It´s not a bad game, but it is worse than Banjo Kazooie in almost every aspect besides graphics and I say this without being blinded by nostalgy.

Remember the Banjo Kazooie levels? Mumbo´s Mountain? Clanker´s Cavern? Freezeety Peak? You always had a central element (mountain, clanker, giant snowman) which eased navigation in those worlds. The levels in Banjo Tooie were bigger, but at least you had a teleport. In Yooka-Laylee you have no teleport and each world consists of clumped together areas which makes navigation very hard, since you don´t have a central point for orientation.

Gruntildas lair was such an awesome hub where every area was different. Hiwory Tower, the hub in Yooka-Laylee, feels always like the same boring factory hallway. Just like the worlds it is so unremarkable that I lost count how many times I got lost, because everything looks the same.

Quills, which are the notes in this games, are spread and hidden in the worlds rather than working as breadcumbs to lead you to interesting places. Have fun wasting your time to find the last two or three quills in every world after you got every other collectible.

Except for maybe Trowzer (Bottles replacement) most of the minor characters are pretty lame and boring.
Copying Banjos and Kazooies characters for Yooka-Laylee (Banjo/Yooka being chill and Kazooie/Laylee being cheeky) was also not the best idea since it always remind you of the original characters and those more meaningful dialogues.

Remember the awesome quiz at the end of the Banjo Games? It´s pain in this game, because
a) you have to do it 3 times before getting to the next world and
b) it´s asking you questions like "How many Quills do you have at this exact moment?" or "How many hours did you play this game yet?" which you can only answer if you looked those informations in the menu up a minute before the quiz.

I wish I could at least have the hope, that my invested money makes sure, that playtonic games can now start to pump out more rare-like games. But seeing, how devs which once upon a time developed Banjo Kazooie and now made such bad design choices like in Yooka-Laylee I don´t have much hope.

Don´t even buy it on sale, just play Banjo Kazooie one more time, unless you really really want to play another collectathon even if it´s worse than the original.
