Early Access Review
I love space management games where you get to manage a crew and in this one you can build your spaceship pretty much however you want. There's enough role play mechanisms with the crew to keep things interesting and you get attached (at least I do) to certain characters as you play through. It's still in alpha so it's not perfect and there are some design choices that are frustrating, but you work around them. The ship and system points are one of the frustrating mechanisms. The system points are fine. It does limited the number of large systems you can put on a ship, but otherwise you could just have a massive dreadnought that would roll over anything. I wish there were more core points so you could have a few more ships in your fleet. I recently found a way around this, by taking a contract where I linked up with some NPC ships from the military. We took out the original objective, but since I haven't gone back to collect the reward they are still in my fleet. We've been going around taking out pirates and getting into large fleet battles. I would recommend this game, but play it for the style of game it is and not what it isn't.

Now that Sony has reverse their decision I have changed my review. This is a really fun game especially if you have a good set of teammates to play with. The missions get really crazy when you get to the higher levels, but really fun.

I love playing this game and have almost 100 hours into it. The game mechanics and game run smooth, I haven't had any issues with crashing, and have met some great people while playing. I've even sent them in game friend requests, which I usually don't do. There is a mix of things to do, and it's been a blast getting into missions with higher level people who help you out, or into missions with lower level people and you give them a hand. It feels like the toxic environment from COD is almost non-existent.

But now for the bad. Like so many I'm giving it a No because of Sony. I know many games want you to link this account or that account, but really there is no reason for it with Sony and this game. Also given Sony's horrible security track record this is just an information grab by Sony.

Decided to retry this came using Xbox Live Game program ($1 for a month) now that MS has released a patch for the game. I can say the patch has helped my installation immensely. I was able to install the game with no issues. It still took 2 hours, but it's a lot of data so that's to be expected. I'm not sure sure if there were performance improvements in the patch, but I was getting much better visuals as well as performance. My GTX 1070 was delivering great visual (not photo real, but pretty close). I flew in a storm this morning and the clouds and rain looked great and you could see variations in the cloud cover with sun shining through in parts, and rain squalls dropping rain on the ground.

A couple of things that I did differently.

Installed on my SSD drive. Normally this is reserved for the OS, but for this game I found it goes to the HD a lot and the faster speeds helped.

Installed another 16GB of RAM to bring up to 48GB. Not sure if this helped at all, but I'm trying to squeeze as much life out of my PC before having to upgrade and it was cheap.

Stopped using my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Both of these were going to sleep to conserve power since I'm using a controller and this (I think) was causing my game to pause. I think the game thought I had lost my controllers so it was waiting for them to reconnect. I flew this morning with a USB keyboard/mouse and there were no pauses.

Specs: Asus Z170 I7-6700
48GB RAM
GTX 1700
