I love this game! I still return to it now, in 2023. Wish I'd left a review sooner, but hey, better late than never.

The game is brutally difficult, but I like that. The graphics and sound (dark, thumping music and loud gunshots) create an ominous, threatening atmosphere. The guns look perfect, the reloading animations, blood splatters and so on, and they feel weighty and powerful.

As the store page says, the game isn't perfect. It occasionally crashes, load times can be slow, and it sometimes glitches out. necessitating a reload. You can save at will, so this isn't a major issue.

It's also built with a fairly dated engine. To me, that makes it all the more impressive. I give the dev props for creating such an enjoyable game with the limited engine. No mean feat. I can only imagine what they could create with a more modern engine.

My recorded play time isn't a true reflection of the hours I've put into this game. It runs fine without Steam, so I've tended to launch it directly from the game folder.

In a nutshell. if you like the look of Crimson Metal, jump in and give it a go! It copped flak for various reasons, but I can't praise it enough. Persist and the core gameplay shines through the flaws.

I hope to see more from Madbox!!

A solid, well-made shooter that really nails the early 90s Toaplan feel.

I used to be into collecting arcade PCBs. So yeah, I guess these kinds of games are "my thing", more so than modern shooters with flashy graphics. Just as well; my ageing rig lacks the horsepower to run that stuff.

For me, Blazend could almost be a newly discovered, unreleased gem from that era.

It is a hard game. Lose concentration for a second and you're toast. But that's part of its appeal.

I've yet to get very far in. Yes, there are continues, but the masochist in me forbids their use ;)

Anyway, what's the fun in credit-feeding your way through?

The music deserves a special mention. A perfect accompaniment to the action.

Not my cup of tea.

Based on the demo, I was expecting an intense zombie horde-type thing in a semi-real-world setting, akin to Black Ops zombies.

What I got was a more fantasy themed game, set in an alternate, hellish reality, though to be fair the screenshots do suggest this.

Upon selecting the main/game campaign, I found myself walking along several confined, linear areas in a gorge/valley. Three zombies appeared at regular intervals. predictably, from behind large boulders, advancing towards me with ill-intent.

Once I got hold of an assault rifle, the zombies posed little threat. Ammo was fairly plentiful. I never felt in any real danger as I plodded onward.

This feeling of safety evaporated once I arrived at what seemed to be a boss, an enraged, hulking demon. His lengthy energy bar went down a tiny fraction with each shot that made contact, and he kept warping right next to me, taking generous chunks of my health.

The boss got the better of me, and mindful of Steam's two hours of gameplay refund rule, I left it there.

One unusual feature was that the melee attacks appeared to be limited, with "melee boxes" offering top-ups, for a price. It was confusing to suddenly find myself unable to strike the zombies, the protagonist's hands seemingly exhausted and unable to function.

I do appreciate that the game is a one-man effort and hate to be negative. Overall it's well optimised, running smoothly on my old set-up, and looks decent. It just didn't engage me.

I'll keep an eye on how the game progresses and may check it out again at some point.

Just all-round great! Gameplay, music, the looks, atmosphere, everything ticks my boxes.

I don't get a lot of time to put into games these days. But Project Downfall is one that I keep coming back to. And each time I do, I resolve to make more time for this game!

Great little shooter with a fantastic retro soundtrack!!

I bought this ages ago, but only just played it properly.

I have heaps of games in my library that I haven't played lol ,,, go figure.

It's a difficult game, but definitely has that "one more try" quality about it.

The only thing is I couldn't get my mouse to work properly.

It's easy enough to play with keyboard controls, though.

Hope to put some more time into this one.

Pretty dope game!!

Shame it's only one level repeated. It gets harder as you go on, though.

But big props to Sega for giving away these freebies!

If you like scrolling beat 'em ups, give this a shot. You'll get some fun out of it.

I like these kinds of single-player shooters. Not too much in the way of plot or puzzles etc to worry about, just jump straight in and start killing ;)

I haven't played Maverick a whole lot yet, but on first impressions it's pretty good.

OK, it's a little rough around the edges, as to be expected for an Early Access game. There's room for improvement here and there. Check out my post on the discussions page for more details on this.

But I'm happy to see the developer is responsive to suggestions, and I look forward to future updates.

For the price, it's worth a go if you're into solo shooters.
