As far as the visual assets - I think AoE1 used sprites, no? Can't really be ported into AoM. I'd recommend getting an existing unit like the Egyptian priest that's close enough and making minor edits until you're happy. I have a guide on using 3ds Max for these sorts of edits on my profile.
