So insanely polished and good! If only developers could watch Hopoo games more and learn from them, so all games could be this good! The new content is just to drool over, the new characters are all completely different playstyles and so completely flushed out! Am loving the new hidden character!!

Not even sure if I can recommend the game in it's current state.

The idea was to coop it with a friend. But as soon as you select a server and make a character, you are locked to that server and have no way of deleting your character and/or switching server.

If you intend to coop, be 100% sure you are on the same server, or it's a rip.

EDIT:
Game was released with functionality of making multiple characters disabled. Game got "review bombed" as ppl seem to call it now, i call it voicing your concerns to a company that is trying to abuse normal game mechanics that should be in a game for more monetary gain.
Netease is worth over 60 billion dollars in july 2024. that is more then some countries have as a budget.
They have teams of psychologists and psychiatrists to study player behavior and what is and isn't acceptable to get the most money out of each and every player.

Not being able to make multiple characters and saying up front they will "fix" it in August is a good example. Since as it turns out, this function was available, done and working as intended. They were testing the waters and ofcourse the plan was to completely monetize this function, had players not voiced their concerns.

KEEP REVIEW BOMBING DOG COMPANIES SO THEY REALISE PPL WANT A FINISHED PRODUCT AND DON'T WANT TO TEST GAMES FOR FREE!

If you are a new player, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

The official server are unmoderated, which makes sure the players that have played this game for waaaaay too long get bored and exploit all possible ways to grief other players. Ill list some of them below;

1. on PvE servers, ppl build foundations and pillars EVERYwhere, so there is no room to build anymore for anyone new. If you ask about it they say "it's to protect valuable resources". ( we're talking about fresh spawn beaches with dodos and NO resources here... ). The real reason for this is to keep players numbers low because of the immense lag due to never wiping servers.

2. on PvP servers, even if you join the first map the Island, ppl will be able to transport dinos from expansions to this server. Which means while your building your wooden shack, some dude on a dragon rolls up and kills all ur dinos and despawns ur ♥♥♥♥. Then they go to all the pillars to build ♥♥♥♥ preventing any players from transportin dinos there themselves or even MOVING TO ANOTHER SERVER.

I played this game a lot when it first came out and wasnt this ridiculous cesspool of toxicity, now if you value your time and money ( and sanity ) just don't.. Ark is dead, unless u have an Alpha tribe with 20 members with dragons from other servers and want to actually buy all the overpriced DLC. ( which they keep on releasing without fixing real game isseus )

Get the demo, it gives you the whole game for free. Barely any content.

Well 2 months later, thought I'd update my review, since it's all but fair:

They added plants, or basically a plant. There's different species of seeds u can buy, yet they are all exactly the same, since you will end up with weed. No special name matching the brand of seeds you bought or anything.

The whole plant stuff adds about 0.5 hours of extra gametime ( and this is added at the point you don't even sell weed anymore because you will have unlocked far more expensive stuff netting you a lot more money )

Final verdict:

Since the people playing this game are very excited for "weather" being added and a "remaster" of a few months old game.. this game is pretty much dead.

Get the demo and you can experience EVERYTHING the game has to offer, expect the plant growing.

Sad, loved the initial idea, poorest execution ever.

EDIT: Endgame update;

Yeah, still less content then an early acces game, very unfinished, multiple players experiencing bugs where they can't even start the game.
Besides the fact that before dropping the "end game" update ( which is basically just dumbed down houseflipper added to the asset flips ) they announced that they couldn't succeed in what they initially planned for this game and are just abandoning it, while ofcourse at the same time announcing DDS2 asking you to please spend your money again.

In short, dont..

Before my actual review, I'd like to add that I've been on their discord server since january, following the progress over the last few months.

At the start, all communication was mostly via a community manager who kept us up to speed, which boiled down to "the team is working hard to to get the game out as soon as possible".
After seeing the game's release date delayed a few times, that could get pretty frustrating, but in hindsight I do totally understand.
The game had been done and ready for release, they implented a traditional ip/port connection method for multiplayer but then had to implement the steam system aswell. This caused loads of unforeseen bugs, which set them back dramatically.
Considering the team consists of a lead director/developer and 2 coders who actually write the codes, this will take time.
After the game released on steam, the communication on discord improved 200% and basically all the members of the team, including artists who made the artwork and such are active and answer all questions you have as soon as they can ( which is usually a matter of seconds or minutes ). It's very obvious this is a project they passionately pursue to get it finished and complete. They are open to any feedback from the community and if within reason and well argumented, they will definately implement it in the game!
When the game released, there were some annoying bugs, which you will probably be able to read about in the reviews from ppl that have played 10 minutes so I don't feel the need to go into those. What I will add is that they fixed basically ALL of those bugs within the first patch which cames HOURS after that ( instead of days and/or weeks like the big gaming companies with hundreds of employees usually take ). Within 2 days they released 3 patches, which came with loads of hotfixes, QoL improvements and even some added content with a lot of feedback from the community, which I think is pretty awesome.

For my actual review:

Considering the game is a work in progress and not finished, my review is subject to change following the developments of the game.

The game's concept is pretty simple, you start off spawning next to a blue crystal and your sole purpose is to protect that crystal from being destroyed. If the crystal is destroyed, the game is over.
The crystal you need to protect resides in a base, which offers the options to store stuff you find, craft new gear or food and you can upgrade it to some degree to protect your crystal.
The building at this moment is limited to upgrading your gates, but will be expanded on in the future.
To help protect your base, you can also find NPC's scattered throughout the world. They will mostly fight enemies, but also offer you the chance to sell excess resources and/or gear to.
Each individual NPC you find also sells various things you can buy.

You start out by selecting 1 of 5 classes, which consist of 2 melee characters, a hunter like character using bow and arrow and 2 caster characters.
All characters have their own abilities and they all feel varied and fun to play. There have allready been some massive balance updates to equalise the starting strength of the characters and to make sure they are all viable while yet each remaining unique in playstyle.

You can gather/cut trees/mine ores or kill enemies to get resources, which will enable you to craft better gear. Gear improves your stats and thus your defense, offence or your gathering strength/speed.
While the game is enjoyable solo, it shines mostly when you play with friends. You will quickly see that the characters abilities have nice synergies together and farming materials will become a lot easier when you're not fighting alone.
Overall the gameplay loop is very enjoyable, but like I said there is still a lot to be added to make it into a complete game. Yet i have faith in it becoming one hell of a game, the community is very active and positive in regards to getting the game where it needs to be and the developers seem motivated to make this into a true indie diamond that will grace any hoarders collection and bring joy in the process.
Even though the game is not finished, it will definately give you good content for a fair price, especially when more content will be added in the future!

Your shot accuracy relies completely on how much actual real life money you spend on clubs increasing your shot luck. Skill does not depict where the ball goes, but a stat called "forgiveness" does. Worst game ever 0/10
