In my opinion the greatest game ever made is Planescape: Torment.
Using the gameplay formula of Baldur's Gate while still putting in new elements.
The game is based upon the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons ruleset which is the same as the Baldur's Gate series.
The world it creates is nothing like any other game, Sigil is honestly one of the most depressing worlds where a game can be set, yet it has that sort of charm that still motivates you to keep playing.
The characters are original and no cliches can be said about them.
Especially the characters of Morte and Annah are the most explored through the journey.
The Nameless One conveys all the human errors and the game asks the questions which sometimes appear is high philosophy, honestly makes the player think so much about it context and message.
Is it worth to go through the journey and reclaiming your humanity?
What can change the nature of a man?
All of this concludes in a twist ending which is so powerful I had to stop playing and start thinking.
The music is so strong that I listen to it outside the game as well.
This is the game I bring up when I talk about Games as an art form.
Wonderful story with a flawless soundtrack and lovely characters.
High recommend.
