I literally only play this game because my friends play it. The developers either don't care about it or are just inept. Every new patch brings a new set of bugs that usually aren't fixed for weeks, Items are buffed or nerfed seemingly at random. The meta is so constrictive that attempting to play outside of it in any "serious" game mode is usually met with an absolute stomping. However my friends and I have put way too much time into it and at this point we really don't know where else to go, so if you like Stockholm Syndrome give the game a go I guess. I wouldn't recommend spending too much time with this one otherwise.

This game is interesting but its one man designer shows. It has many facets that are usually associated with a devolver digital indie classic like Hotline Miami. Its core gameplay loop is simple but entertaining with some very notable flaws and the level design is functional but not altogether unique or impressive. The cutscene art is beautiful and it makes me upset that its not that level of quality in the game as well. The flaws in the game show in the base combat mechanic of draw a line and kill everything inside that line and that has a lot of potential, unfortunately that potential is never truly realized as there are no puzzles in the game that really capitalize on the line aspect and most fights end with violently flailing the mouse until there are no obstacles left in your path. There's a time slow mechanic but that slows down your character as well and only really draws out what will most likely be your death as you watch helplessly while the bullet goes through your chest cavity and into the nearby MS paint wall. The way you draw the line makes determines how the corpses appear on screen but again, that is never really made to shine as most enemies will attack in random ways and you have to compensate by also randomly flailing and you can't really make your opponent into a sushi buffet when doing so. The bosses try and shine a spotlight on the line mechanic but only one really has a fun puzzle whereas the other is a practice in how fast you can swing your mouse up and down and hope it hits the projectiles. Where this game TRULY shines is in the writing and the music. The main plot is both funny and engaging and the characters are all unique and fleshed out in a way that really sticks with you. The soundtrack is great mostly but there are only so many songs and they end up looping and become repetitive especially during the combat levels. All in all my only complaints are that the combat isn't really reaching its max potential, the music loops are too short and repetitive at times and the artstyle; while unique; leaves a lot to be desired outside of the cutscenes. Going forward, since this is intended to be episodic, I hope to see the combat and level design fleshed out and longer or more varied music scores. Definitely take a look at this game as the writing in itself is worth at least the price of your typical indie game however the rest will leave you wanting if you've ever played a Devolver Digital title.
