A game you can play in many ways as it is, with mods you have a game that offers quite a bit and something I would gladly recommend to anyone into games like this.

With soon to be 1000 hours spent on this game I must admit that it's fairly decent. However I don't think I would have spent this much time on the game if it wasn't for mods, with the Community Patch/Vox Populi, Enhanced User Interface and More Luxuries as well as custom Civilizations and small fixes found on the workshop it's a great game.
