Just the right mix of horror and action!

The best way to appreciate this is by getting your hands on the original Half Life (easily available for dirt cheap on Steam), playing it, and then playing this game. You'll get to witness the hardwork and dedication that a bunch of HL fans have put into a remake, to a level that even current day major game developers don't.

With that said, this game is also wonderful when played by itself. It's Half Life after all.

JUST GET IT!

Excellent game. Trust me (mostly for you reading this - a random stranger on the internet) this game is worth the money and the time. While the shooting might not be mind-blowing, the story, ambience, setting and overall tone are fantastic. Also, go into this game absolutely blind (don't read anything about the story or watch any gameplay videos) for the best experience ever. Hope you have fun.
