I've tried it, it have very fun combo seems lot of fun ! (I tested it in the training area, idk if you saw it yet but you can train combo and weapons there! ^_^)

I trained a bit with the switch axe (it's an axe who can turn into a big sword. xD) and it have lot of fun combos too ! :D With bit of practice I manage to do some of them. xD

Hardest part is to remember the combo outside the training area when you're in a real mission like "B...B... B+Y... RT+Y well it turned into a sword now B... I forgotten the last part oops"
One of the Switch Axe combo is like I should have the switch axe turned the sword and do Y Y Y B B Y+B then the sword turn into the axe and I should spam Y and it just explode XD

Most important part is to have fun with the weapon of your choice... :3

Yeah ! I saw it seems a bit difficult for noob-me (Thats why I prefer the heavy bowgun for now like... from what I saw I just have to throw a big stuff and it do damage xD. Insect Glaive isnt surely easy but I find it fun to have a little insect alongside me and stuff so... ^^) but I'm sure you'll be fine with it ! :D I like ranged stuff ig! ;')

Wich weapon did you chose ? :D Personally.... I took insect glaive and it's lot of fun ! ^D^ (heavy bowgun seems cool too !)
