A mobile game I received for free. I would not have bought it. It is a decent puzzle game but intended for, more intuitive on, and likely more enjoyable on touch screens. Linux (Ubuntu 22.04) version works fine (though full-screen toggle is not persistent) so maybe it would be decent on Steam Deck.

I do not prefer the grind-for-highscore type games, but maybe this is for you and your touchscreen device.

This strange story never makes it quite clear where it is going. It is an average point and click, with beautiful graphics and quirky characters. The awkward animations do not diminish the charm of the silly adventure. Most puzzles have background information provided to help resolve, even though there will be a lot of back-tracking.

Mixed. A sequel to, and another, average point and click. Several crashes when adjusting the graphics options, randomly in game, and when choosing "back to menu." The latter two result in the process continuing to run. I switched to Proton so I could actually play through. Visuals and movement speed are much improved.

The puzzles are once again convoluted. The story is an interesting continuation, with significant parallels to 1930s Germany.

An average point and click with a decent story. However, it does not work out-of-the-box on Linux. I forced Proton to get it running. Text is cut off and the interface does not always display after click. Movement speed is extremely slow and there is no double-click to move more quickly.

Check out the Hidden Linux Gems curator for more reviews of great games you should know about!

A quality point-and-click with a nice style and story. It is good for some laughs here and there, and overall meets expectations. Is it a hidden gem? No.

4-7 hours for a single play-through, and only one is necessary unless you want to go back for some missed achievements. Save slots can assist and save time there if desired. There is a decision at the end, it is a false choice, left or right box does not matter.

A large amount of time will be sunk into the card game if you want to beat all 5 players. It could have been explained better (highest wins for IQ or strength, lowest wins for speed or fumble percentage), and the slow intro and outro extend the length of play even more than necessary.

Over-the-top cute, quirky game. Nothing gets in they way of it still being enjoyable. An intentionally short experience worth the asking price.

A great twist for a genre that has quickly become saturated. Since release, the game has seen some continued improvements. Overall, it needs some general polish but is great fun in short runs.

Certain combinations can result in major frame drops. One time it caused the game to completely lock my system. I rarely felt powerful enough to melt through levels, a bit more end-game upgrades would be nice. They are working on what felt like an abrupt end to the storyline / bloated remaining levels. A purpose for all the gems/gold after all the current upgrades would be nice. Some options that come to mind are:

  • bolt-on and consumable re-roll (number of re-rolls could be unlocked with extra gold toward end game)
  • bolt-on save option for future use (while selecting another)
  • bolt-on block to eliminate the option from appearing again (in that run or a set number of locks game-wide)
  • bolt-on extra choice upgrade
  • bolt-on carry-over for next run
  • upgrade for fuel blocks to provide more fuel

Cute, short, relaxing game which meets all expectations. There is just enough going on to keep you paying attention while still being a chill game to play. I appreciate the developer clearly stating what to expect, and that is part of why I purchased shortly after release.

It has been about 4 years since I played the prior HotK "Lost Tales" and I got exactly what I expected. If you have not played the earlier 3, I would recommend you try at least one of them first. This is a game you play to turn your brain off and relax. The story does not add much to the game and the entire experience is linear.

This release felt like it had quite a lot of backtracking because I never knew how much of an item I would need and did not want to waste resources. That additional time extended my gameplay to just over 4 hours, which appears to be around the average playtime.

A charming adventure about growing up with dialogue choices based on dice rolling. The dice can be customized over time - providing you some, though not full, control of options. At no cost, there is very little to complain about.
