Cut VALVe intro? What's that?
This map was cut prior to the release of Half-Life in 1998. It is dated September 9th, 1998, and is named valve.bsp. It was designed by Chris Coomer.

It was originally intended to be used as a Valve into for GoldSrc games, but was later cut for reasons unknown. It was released to the now-defunct Valve VERC Collective, a Valve fan site, by the Valve designer Chris Bokitch.

Two unique models are used in this map. The first, mrvalve.mdl, is the character seen here. It is larger than all HL1 character models to allow for more detailed animations. The second is the valve model its self, given the name of "spigot.mdl" The map fades to black. It was probably meant to continue to the main menu from this point. The music still plays even though the map is over.

I was reminded today of an old intro cinematic I had once posted, a Half-Life level camera sequence of what was originally intended to be the world's introduction to Valve. For whatever reason, it wasn't used, but in November of '99 I was told I could let it out. It was posted with the following note:

"This was an early idea for the Valve intro. The combination of work by Greg Coomer (level design), Steve Theodore (models), and Doug Wood (animation) -- it's been languishing on old alpha CDs just begging to be viewed.
Download the intro
To download the cut intro, click here.[www.dropbox.com]
Installing the intro.
After downloading, open steam, and right-click Half-Life and click properties. Then, you need to click game files and click browse local files. Then go to the valve folder, and copy all files from the zip file to the valve folder.
Testing the map
First, you'll want to find Half-Life in your games library. Right-click on it, and open Properties. Go into Set Launch Options, or whatever it is, and type "-console" Then, simply save and exit.
When you've started the game, press your tilde key (~) to open your console menu and type "map valve" without quotation marks.
Setting the map to launch.
Now, go back to HL's local game files. Go to the valve folder again, and create a .cfg file called userconfig.
In the userconfig file, type map valve
Then, you need to click save and exit.
Map should work.
If HL is already open, exit and launch it again. The map should work.
