Installation
Cortex Command mod installation is extremely simple. There is no official mod manager, but even without one mod installation and removal is very simple.

1. Once you have downloaded the .zip or .rar file containing the mod, open it.

Best place to download Cortex Command mods would be the official Data Realms forum, they have an entire "Mod releases" section there!

2. Inside of it, there should be a folder with .rte at the end of it. For instance, "Example.rte". Unpack the .rte folder into your main Cortex Command folder. It's the one with "Dummies.rte", "Coalition.rte" and such.

The main Cortex Command folder should be in your Steam folder. It should be something like:
C:\***********\Steam\steamapps\common\Cortex Command

3. Simply launch the game, if you didn't make anything silly, and the mod is not outdated and complatible with your Cortex Command version, it should load right after the Metagame.rte.
Uninstallation
Uninstallation is as simple as installation, as long as your "Delete" button is intact.

Simply delete the .rte folder, or rename it so it wouldn't have ".rte" at the end of it if you just want to disable it for some time.

Be careful not to accidentally delete one of the core .rte files! This may and definetly will make the game unplayable!
Help! The game crashed while loading!
If after mod installation the game fails to start and you get an error message, this might mean that:

1. The mod you installed is outdated, if you have no modding experience there is not much you can do to make it work, better uninstall it before it layed an egg!

2. Your mod is missing some dependencies. Ussually this means that either the mod is outdated and rellies on objects that no longer exist ingame, or that you have edited one of core folders, or that the mod depends on another mod. Check the error message, it should mention what file the game couldn't find! Most of modders inform that their mod depends on another mod in the forum thread they publish their mod on.

3. You might have deleted something in the mod folder. I'm not saying that you're stupid or clumsy, just that sometimes while checking how different mods work you might accidentally do something wrong! Reinstall the mod folder to fix this.

To be fair you may wanna look into Cortex Command Community project anyways, and that one, uhhhh, it has no workshop support but is planned to eventually allow downloading straight from mod.io.

Thank you for the relatively quick response,

I looked for a bit and the general conclusion seems to be that the workshop is broken for now

I will probably continue using the forum to find mods anyway.

Still thanks for the tool, that might become useful at some point.

Honestly haven't touched the workshop in ages so no idea. One option is to use Steam Workshop downloader to DL content for yourself and put in game folder, seeing how none of mods are unlikely to be updated you're not missing out muh beyond extra hassle

Also have you checked for solution in the game discussion?

I might be a bit late, but @✿Vael✿ I am currently facing this very issue, are you able to provide a link to the guide on how to resolve it?
(I am currently downloading the mods from the forum, but it is not as convenient)

Oh, good to hear! I heard of several instances of mods not downloading, but never experienced it myself or heard about what might be the cause of issue in the first place, admitedly.

Not quite. sometimes it won't download the mods. Don't worry tough, I put up a guide for the fix.

Workshop variant? Why, it's just pressing a button and you're done!

You should write a workshop variant of this.

Yes. Unless mod is outdated and has old dependencies.

Does this work for the version in steam aswell?
